Head into the woods behind the sign (on the left/south side of the road) and bushwack straight down the hill. A small drainage should be just to your right, you will want to follow this all the way down to Whitaker Creek. Once you hit Whitaker Creek, Turn Left and follow the creek downstream, coming to Amber Falls almost immediately. To get to Compton's Double Falls, continue to follow Whitaker Creek downstream, but staying up on the bench up above, keeping the creek just off to your right. You will pass two small drainages along the way, each containing small waterfalls. After about ¾ mile, you will reach the falls; the creek will drop sharply and you should be able to hear the falls, too. It takes a lot of water to get this waterfall running as a double, so save it for a really rainy day. To return, hike back out the same way that you came in. Trails are marked with Orange bands to help guide you so keep an eye out for those in the trees.

Entered at Whitaker Poimt trailhead and exited at Amber/Compton Falls. Mostly a bushwhack and boulder hopping. Very steep terrain. Awesome adventure!

Beautiful & heavily wooded trail with a number of waterfalls along the way. Very desolate, we didn’t see any other hikers while we were out there. The trail is rather steep and sometimes a little difficult to find. I’m pretty sure for about 1/2 the hike we weren’t actually on the trail, but it wasn’t bad. Very muddy and slippery, so wear good shoes. Also, the sign at the trail head all close to gone, and only a small part remains. Looks out for a wood sign that says “upper” hiding in the woods and that is wear you will want to start from.

In the description above look for the sign that says ‘upper’ - that’s your start point. The volunteer trail is pretty easy to Amber Falls as far as moderate ratings go, it does get more challenging from there to Comptons Falls. The trail is easy to loose, but follow the directions in the description here and you’ll be fine. I always take my dog (Chocolate Lab) and he’s pretty versed in the scrambles to the bottom of falls now - but it was a bit of a scramble down to bottom of Amber and Compton - slippy when wet kind of thing. Others here have mentioned several smaller falls you’ll see along the way after some rain. Owl Falls is also very close to Compton Falls, in fact it’s the creek facing you as you head down the bluff break to access Compton Falls base.

Lots of waterfalls along the Creek on the way to Compton's Falls. Amber Falls a small jog off the way. Best route is by the creek but a rocky scramble up and down from ridge, extra slippery with new fall leaves underfoot. Plenty of markers until Creek area.

The Compton Double is one of several really nice waterfalls here. Probably my favorite creek area I've done yet. The path is easy to follow for a while, but then it's a lot of bushwhaking along the water.

Hiked both falls with a group three days ago. This trail is lightly trafficked so pay attention for the plastic markers in the trees. Downed trees on the trail to the bottom of comstock falls. Beautiful falls - worth the hike on a nice day.

Very beautiful. Hilly and loose gravel, some logs to cross. To get to bottom of falls, very steep and hard to distinguish trail. I did in fall 2019. Moderate to difficult if going to bottom of falls.

I’d say it’s a little more than a moderate trail. Definitely lightly trafficked as we lost the trail a couple of times but if you follow the creek down you’ll be fine. Loved the waterfall at the end it was well worth the hike. Be sure to check yourself for ticks!

This trail is hard. The waterfalls are amazing! We saw over 15. The big waterfall is the main attraction. Not worth hiking past that. Definitely go after a good rain.

Very Rocky trail down by the creek/river might want to bring water hiking shoes. Be prepared to do a little climbing. Thought this trail was a harder than moderate. Watch out for poison ivy.

Hiked this one after we visited Hawksbill Crag. Easy to follow trail with quite a few falls in the area! Will definitely be going back this fall.

Trails definitely worth doing to see the falls at the end. Such a beautiful site! The trail is full of waterfalls. As someone else stated follow the orange bands. We walked through the woods up on the creek bank to the falls and on the way back walked mostly in the creek. There is a path you can see on the banks of the creeks. This handy app helped tons!!

Whitaker creek is beautiful, and there is so much water activity. I would not rate this trail as moderate, though. I may have lost the trail. Had to do a bit of scrambling up and down some steep slopes. Didn’t make it to the end to see Compton falls so will have to go back and do it earlier in the day. Definitely will go after the rains, again. Even without seeing the main falls, the hike was worth it. The creek is just beautiful.

Definitely has to be one of the more underrated trails in the area went at peak time on a Saturday not a soul on the trail, absolutely beautiful make sure to explore around the area near the end of the trail several beautiful falls in the area, make sure to follow orange bands around trees to the creek then follow the creek till you see the falls, trust me cant miss them, Check them out in the video below, Highly recommend this trail! https://youtu.be/l93nUs2sj0w

One of the best waterfalls in Arkansas. Spectacular when the water is flowing!! Compton’s Double falls is amazing, however there are many other waterfalls to see on this hike including Amber Falls, Owl Falls and many other unnamed waterfalls.
