Scramble past 4.5m. Trail tough to follow, with loose dirt and rock. Ice at spots.

This was a fantastic trail to do a warm up and or first time backpack trip, especially with a dog! Me-hadn’t backpacked in 3 years, my friend-21 years, her daughter and my 1.5 year old pup-first time! We were stoked the weather was so perfect (overcast and warm but breezy) bc the first part coming from the parking lot has some uphill. Once we got to the top of the canyon, however, we realized it was literally all down hill! So much water in Sycamore Reservoir! Flowing waterfall! Awesome to see so much water in the desert (this is after all the winter rain in March ‘19). We opted to just go to the right of the reservoir instead of doing the whole trail, and found a couple fire rings. Beautiful spot next to running water and enough way from the trail to not have any visitors. The night was pretty cold at 44. The hike out the next day was far easier than it looked going down but hard enough to give us a huge appetite and sore muscles. A fun starter (for fit people) hike for backpacking for sure!
