I completely agree that this is not the right trail for massacre falls. We attempted to follow this loop but quickly realized that it isn’t a trail at all and spend so much time climbing steep rocks to find the correct trail. Park at the larger lot at the end, the trail is clearly marked and is not a loop.

This was a very dangerous loop that did not lead to the falls. DO NOT USE THIS LOOP. Very off trail, very steep, very dangerous. Someone is going to get hurt following this loop when there is an official massacre falls trail to follow thatbis perfectly fine and a moderate hike. We spent far too much time finding the actual, correct trail and got back way past dark.

THIS LOOP IS NOT THE TRAIL FOR MASSACRE FALLS!!! It will take you way up and over some seriously sketchy off-trail bushwhacking crap! And you’ll end up at the TOP of the falls with a sketchy downclimb. Follow the trail for Massacre Falls Trail on this map, or search Massacre Grounds Trail in AllTrails. I repeat, do NOT take this loop looking for Massacre Falls. I helped 4 groups who were totally lost today with this map.

After you reach slot rock it gets harder to find the trail. Very overgrown. View is great the closer/higher you get to the end of the trail. Waterfall was a small pour as compared to a few months ago. Would definitely do this trail in winter.

Fun short trail, some shade in one spot. Watch the heat in the summer.

My mom and I do “moderate” rated hikes often, but I feel like this one should be closer to a Hard rating because of the steep sheer rock when we got to the loop part of the trail. We started to climb it, but were to concerned about how it would be going down. The mountain scenery was beautiful and we saw some pretty wildflowers. We saw a horned lizard, but there was no other wildlife beyond the one lizard.

It was about 50° when I departed from the main trailhead for Massacre Falls. I’m not sure if it’s just me, but the route displayed above is a straight shot and there is no established trail for the route it shows. Def take the Massacre Falls Trail (this is probably obvious to most people). My hike fell on Presidents Day, and even with the rain and colder weather I did see about 10-12groups of people on the trail. Falls were flowing, rained the night before and was raining as I hiked. There was also snow on top of the Supers, so the scenery was pretty legit. It also started snowing!! on me at the waterfall and for about 1/2 mile back down the trail. The trail was muddy.
