The walk starts at the viewpoint at the Degollada de Becerra. This is a col that marks the meteorological divide between North and South Gran Canaria, and the first thing you will notice is that it is 10C cooler than when you got in your car at the coast. Add to that the fact that if there is any wind, it howls across the col, and you will find in January that you are rapidly losing the will to live! Cross the road and the path starts to the right of the shop, marked by a post. Descend steadily on a broad track and turn left on to a much narrower path opposite the newish house. The first thing you will notice is that any wind has dropped, and morale amongst the troops improves. The next section descending through the narrow valley can be wet in winter, and you will benefit from good tread on your footwear and a trekking pole if you have one. However, this section is still essentially simple and nothing to concern the average walker, and after a few hundred meters the path widens and dries out and the remainder of the walk is good under foot.
