Along the trail, you will be serenaded by the pleasant buzzing whistle of our tiny black and yellow native warbler with the silly-sounding name; Bananaquit. After crossing one of the many clear mountain streams, you may encounter a lovely Puerto Rican Emerald Hummingbird (Zumbadorcito in Spanish) sipping nectar from a bright red Hibiscus flower, or even be inspected by a family of Mongoose hurriedly crossing your path. he trail ends at Cascada La Mina (La Mina Falls), an exquisite waterfall that drops over 35 feet through a jumble of huge rocks into a lovely pool where hikers can choose to swim in the cool refreshing water or merely rest and enjoy the view.

Still closed from hurricane Maria but the rainforest is gorgeous and still worth the visit. They do allow you far enough up (driving) to see Coca Falls and to the first viewing tower. There isn't a lot of parking but stay patient and you will get a spot. There is a 30 minute time limit on parking.

Moderate hike in with beautiful rainforest views. La Mina Falls was beautiful but very crowded.

I made a loop of this trail and La Mina to get the full experience. It was a pleasant stroll through the well maintained trail, and I stopped several times to look over interesting trees and plants. Because it's in a forest, there are not many scenic views of the area, but that isn't noticed because there are so many trees and types of terrain that capture the interest. This is a hike that causes one to take special interest in the immediate surroundings. With the richness of plants being a special treat, I didn't see much wildlife. The trail culminates in the very popular falls. From there I went up the La Mina trail. https://youtu.be/DXHe32Q0zKc

For a over weight old man, it was OK, but not for the faint of heart. There was some vertical changes, but nothing that time couldn't Handel. The treat at the bottom was well worth the effort. It really is a must do!!
