This trail is a nice alternative to Table Mountain. We have extended the trail to V&A Waterfront which gives a nice mix between wildlife and city walk. it is an easy walk. Walking down from Signal Hill to V&A Waterfront is a bit steep.

Starting at Kloof Nek parking instead of closer to the start of the Diagonal route adds a nice 45-minute "warmup" to the hike--only a few extra km, and a beautiful walk. Be sure to stop at the cave before rounding Porcupine Buttress and take in the views. The scrambles on the Diagonal are (for the most part) balanced out with fairly flat sections, so there is usually a respite between climbs. The longest scramble is up Porcupine Ravine, but the views are phenomenal. Turning the route into a loop and returning via Kasteelspoort is a nice alternative, and makes the return a bit more interesting. Both trails are hot in summer and have very little shade; please be careful to bring enough water. :-)

Let's start by declaring that the trial provides access to beautiful scenery. High level cliffs, flowers, rock hyrax (dassies), sea birds. However, this is not a trail for the couch potatoes. Rather book a gholf cart at Pinnacle Point... The paths are typical mountain paths, rocky, uneven, slippery in many areas. Small sections close to Mosselbay are flat and sandy. Close to Danabay is on the beach. The rest (90%) is up and down, around the coves, over the "points"... Look at the trail stats... The information board at the start in Mosselbay suggests 6 hours. We did it just over 5, with 30 minutes (max, cumulative) stops for water and photos. I am a hiker, fit, but hike for fun, not to race... I took 750ml water with me, not enough! Fortunately the guard at Pinnacle Point was gracious to fill up our bottles. Doing it as a round trip, I salute you! As closure, it is a great walk, beautiful... Thanks to my son for accompanying me and share this pleasant experience.

Really pretty hike. Definitely not an easy climb but very enjoyable.

Steep in sections; a few scrambles. Breathtaking views of Lion's Head, and lightly trafficked. Roughly 60 min. hike to reach the MCSA hut.

Very nice just the end is in a garden. Should rethink the ending. When you return after crossing the river go left instead of right. First stairs up you can use to go back onto the part you came.

The first half is a bit boring, steep up. But the finish through the river is great

hard but worth it

This was an amazing hike. I did it with an expert guide and a group that included 4 others. I only just started hiking and this was my first over 300m elevation hike - so it was very challenging but worth it. It is a steep climb in certain parts but the views are well worth it. The fauna and flora are spectacular. I would definitely suggest doing it with a guide and a group. Take plenty of water and snacks. Rest. And take in the view.

Fairly easy trail, probably 1.5-2h. Recommend doing a loop if you have time to make this more interesting eg up to Du Toitskop which makes it 3.5-4h total and comes with some incredible views. Well marked. Require a permit R50 which you can buy at the gate or online. Saw Klipspringer and fresh leopard tracks!

It tomorrow k is nearly four hours, but it is breathtaking and we managed tobdobit. I am 63 and reasonably fit. Some crossing are easily missed, so download the map and keep a look. Cable down is 180 now but we'll worth the money by the time you finish! First time I used this app. It worked great bit battery went down faster than usual. Carry a spare charger.

Note: our hike was a late winter (Aug) hike with perfect cool sunny weather. This is one of the most beautiful hikes I've done and definitely worth choosing this route over some of the others if you have the time. I recommend leaving early, packing lunch, and taking the Cable cars down if you are a slower hiker or want to preserve your knees. Start at the Theresa Rd parking area and proceed as most have stated (Jeep trail, pipe track to Kasteelspoort to cable cars by way of valley of a few valleys and signs leading to plattelklip gorge trail). Definitely use this app or a person who knows the trail, there are a couple spots where you may loose the trail or end up on the diagonal trail (which is a steep downhill). Carry plenty of water or a Sawyer for the creek about 1/3 way in. if you have time route by the reservoirs and stop to see all the amazing vistas, fynbos, and flowers. Don't rush through those incredible views! There are 3 ladders, a few very easy scrambles, and no real exposures. The distance from the Flat rock or end of Kasteelspoort to the Cable cars is much longer than you think and involves a lot of ups and downs. Aka the top of table mountain, is not that flat. Lol. I heard it could take less than an hour, but that would be a slow run or something. I had a less in-shape friend with me, it took almost double the time for her due to needing breaks. I say this bc I found some sites saying this was easy for all fitness levels and that is true, but a 3-4 hour hike becomes closer to 6-7 hours. I am a pretty fit person, but live in FL so mountain hikes are a luxury, that being said, at a slow pace, it's not a difficult hike, but it is longer than some of the others. In my opinion, the vistas are worth the time. You pass a few people on the trail, mostly local trail runners. Once you get to table mountain, the city bowl is amazing, but there are lots of people. So this trail let's you appreciate that quiet solitude on trail. Sorry for the long review, just hope it helps.
