The guided tour of the caves are 50 rand Per person. There is Limited cover On the trail but there is excellent cover on the main rise which is great. The guide was knowledgeable about the main things but lacked information on questions. The trail is okay maintained with most of the trail being paved. It is well marked and easy to find.

One of the most rewarding hikes that includes Boulder hoping and if you are brave enough to have a dip in a pothole pool of clear cool waters...

Amazing hike. The road to the car park is very (!!) rough. You won't make it in an average rental car. If you don't have a decent 4x4 with good tire clearance, get yourself a lift from the witsiehoek lodge (150 ZAR). they will also pick you up on the way back. We took the gully route and it was very doable for someone with a bit of hiking experience and decent footwear (no Nike free runs please). Not super steep, only a few loose rocks. But be prepared for about 30mins of cardio exercise and I wouldn't recommend doing the gully during the rain as it might get slippery and muddy.

THIS IS THE GORGE HIKE. Some reviews have this hike confused with the sentinel hike, leading to the top of tugela falls. This hike leads you almost (!) to the bottom of tugela falls. But I don't think it's possible to get there. To get to the start, enter "Thendele Camp" into Google maps. Waze also knows the "gorge car park" which is where you need to go. You have to pay a conservation fee of about 120 ZAR at the gate and a tip for the guard at the car park is expected. The Natal Visitor Centre is unknown to Google maps but Waze will know it. It's on the way to the car park and they have maps and food/drinks if you need them. Great hike with exposure for about 50% of the way. Keep going after this recordings ends. It's well worth it to see the actual Gorge. It has rock pools to swim/dip in. Depending on rainfall/season you will get wet feet when entering the gorge but should be fine on the way there.

really awesome hike. We went in summer and spent the night on the top. Took the ladders up and down, but going back to do the gully. There was no water at the top so we had to take some up. Luckily the weather was good and we didn't get pounded by the wind. So, so beautiful and green in Summer.

Very easy walk! Great for walk with young kids!

I loved it, did the full trail with my siblings on a light precipitation filled morning and it was a ball.... had a few falls and scratches but it’s much worth the adventure. Teaches you a lot about how far you can push yourself

Beautiful landscapes, we went a little further than the original record. At the end you can go in the river and there is two small trails. Had to remove our shoes to cross the river (end of April)

stunning walk, perfect for a family with younger children

Thoroughly enjoyed this trail last month. It was our last stop in South Africa and well worth the effort getting there. It is not a difficult trail -- quite shorter than the 8 miles stated -- and you do need a good head for exposure while on the ladders. I recommend bringing scree gloves that provide some degree of grip on the metal rungs. There's a gully option you can choose in lieu of the ladders. To me it looked much more difficult. Our guide said it can quickly turn dangerous during a rain. We went during the dry season and we expected Tugela Falls to be be dry. However, anyone wishing to see the falls should remember it is seasonal!

Amazing views all round, slept at the top for a night and it was incredible. Mornings are to die for when the clouds come in.

Amazing amazing hike - as good as it gets! The waterfall is rain based. The road goes all the way to the car park at the trailhead. Caution: It is a VERY rugged road! The elevation of the mountain creates its own weather system - be prepared for sudden rains and "white-outs" even when the weather prediction is for a clear sky. The lodge nearby (witsieshoek) offers lifts to the car park for R100. well worth it...just call them to confirm the still offer the service.

Absolutely stunning. We went up and down the gully route, which is quite a scramble, but is safe and well marked. The trail is very well maintained, including being paved for the first two miles.

This is a great day hike to do from Thendele. Well marked and not steep. The first few miles is typical Berg hiking up the valley, through open country and a few forests. The hike should really be called the Gorge hike (as its marked in the reserve’s signs), and hiking up the gorge at the end is a must. You pass through the steep-sided gorge, with spectacular views up to Amphitheatre, and can swim in the pools carved in the rock. Watch out of flash floods and speak to the rangers before hiking up the gorge though.

Short walk to the falls suitable for families and includes a swimming hole. Steeper paved walk to the lookout with stunning views. Located in Royal Natal Park. Many other trails for all experience levels available.
