This trail is mostly woodland with some nice elevation. Everything is pretty well maintained. 100% of the trail is off of main roads so this is a great walk for dogs.

Good loop with beautiful views. Medium difficulty, with a lot of climbing up and down from the sea to the table land above. Interesting sea pool at the beginning.

Good trail along the cliffs high above the sea. Medium difficulty unless you want to walk the whole thing. Has an interesting ruin in the middle. Much of the trail must have been a primitive road at one point.

Lovely well maintained trail of medium difficulty. Beautiful waterfall, great vistas, and an optional spur trail leading (way!) down to the water by the ruins of an old bath house. Lots of variety on this trail.

Very peaceful trail. Great views of the cliffs and the ocean. There are towns in between that makes it perfect for a break. Took longer than expected. Viola was not swim able, the waves were too intense. All around a perfect way to spend the afternoon.

de beaux buissons !

easy trail, good to go with your dog. There are some bridges that are for one person per time though. The bad side is that most of the trail coincides with car roads.

This is a nice roundtrip. You start of in Varzea to climb towards the ridge of Sete Cidades. This ridge offers an amazing view towards the blue and green lake but also towards the ocean. From here a descent starts towards the village of Mosteiros. After the descent you walk along the shores of the ocean with beautiful views until you reach the viewpoint. From here you walk through the small town of Varzea back to the starting point. There is a restaurant, bar and coffee bar near the start of the trail.

Start on the easy dirt road on the right near the causeway. Continue into the forest which becomes a moderate track as it goes up and down frequently. About 3/4 of the way around the lake a 30' section of walkway has fallen toward the lake. There is a short difficult by pass above this point. You then meet another dirt road passing by the water plant.

Beautiful trail, well maintained and not too steep. The terrain changes as you go and you get excellent views of the ocean, the town below, and Lake Fogo. Highly recommend!

Beautiful views of cliffs and ocean

Quite possibly the best trail we've hiked in São Miguel. In my opinion the current average of 4.2 doesn't make justice. It has a kind of enchanted valley with a waterfall near the ocean soon after the start. Another valley with benches and tables perfect to stop for snacks/drinks near the ocean. You can also visit the famous Poça Azul where I refreshed myself after such vigorous pace

Really pleasant hike to do. It has a nice waterfall (Salto do Prego), some friends always welcoming food (wild chickens and cats) and a really cute village apparently lost in the nature (Sanguinho), that surprisingly had a café open that we used as shelter from the pouring rain. You won't regret it ;)

Maybe I am not even supposed to right a review, because I didn't complete the loop after reading the comments about the second half being less interesting than the first. Here it goes anyway :) From start to Salto do Cabrito (waterfall) it was pretty good after walking past the degassing fields (yikes!), along the water pipes and the Hydroelectric Power Station. The trail just before the waterfall ain't for the faint of heart. Why? It is a bit high.

Really enjoyed my first trail in the Azores. It started out rather steep, but then it got better. I would consider this trail in 2 distinct areas: Outside and inside the water tunnels area which felt to me like kind of a jungle with a beautiful waterfall. Loved the atmosphere. To make it short: I highly recommended it!

nice trail amazing views, not crowded on a weekend.

Very nice trail, absolutely worth it. Trail is 8.9 km according to my watch. Not much of a difference, but if you're in need of a toilet or planning to catch a flight its good to keep in mind
