Short, easy hike. If it is clear you have stunning views at the pond. If it is cloudy, it’s just an easy walk to a small pond. Not crowded at all though!!

Nice and easy walk by a river showcasing a beautiful coastal rainforest and amazing limestone formations. HIGHLY recommended! Good for kids, running - anything really.

Hiking this solo made me a wuss and I had to turn back in the middle of Tunnel Cave :( The path from the car park is indeed easy but is more like an hour, not 40 mins as stated in the DOC brochure. Once you get to the first junction, keep going and do it clockwise! That might have made a difference for me. Miner’s cave was cool but didn’t go to deep. Tunnel cave was neat and I saw the gold flecks, but I started at the wide end - once I saw how narrow the finish was I turned around and skipped Cavern Creek. I had a torch and good shoes but heart-pounding fear didn’t embolden me to finish the whole tunnel. The loop track is definitely rough-going.

No glacier view, closed because of landslide

Beautiful walk with amazing views of the Tasman sea, Aoraki Mount Cook and Nikau palms. One of my favorite training runs.

My friends and I hiked this trail and loved every minute of it! We hiked to Mahoney bluff and did the cave loop. It was raining all day but it was still definitely worth it and made the track more beautiful as you are surrounded by fog filled hills. The track starts off with a bridle track on an easy gravelly path. The track goes through a jungle Landscape with tons of places to stop and look at tall tree ferns, cliff edges, and waterfalls that lead into the roaring river in the adjacent valley. The track Feels very wild with lots of vegetation and tons of weka on the trail. After you reach Mahoney bluff the track turns into a very rugged, muddy track with steep slopes as you move toward the caves. The caves are awesome and you can see some glow worms! The caves are definitely rugged and not for the average hiker. Lots of muddy sections where you can easily slip and fall. Definitely need good hiking boots and a torch. Would definitely recommend taking your time to explore the caves fully. Took us 5 hours to explore and walk out and back.

Amazing track — super easy on the main walk and then the trail gets rugged once you go on the caves loop but not hard, you just have to watch your footing in the caves and the trail. VERY muddy when we went, it was raining the whole time but we had a great time. Amazing glow worms and GOLD in miners cave. Wildly crazy beautiful, one of my favorite hikes I’ve ever done !! So nice and very isolated

This was not a hard track. There are historical sites in teh form of the old gold mining equipment. The track is well defined and easy to follow. Near the Knob are two huts for paid over night stays. Currently The track is closed until 1DEC when a new track will be opened crossing over the Croesus Track. I did not continue down the west side to Barrytown.
