Great track to get your heart rate up as it's a solid ascent either side, and works your quads just as much on the way down. lots of it is shaded by the trees which also unfortunately doesn't help with the views. The loop was a great option to cover different ground, and end up on the beach before heading back to the car - recommend if you're up for a hike that will make you work hard!

Really good trail. Drive up to the carpark if you can--you can walk up from town but that walk isn't nearly as nice as the actual trail. Trail itself has beautiful overlooks of the Sound quite often and has interesting forest flora when there aren't views. End of the trail gets you almost to the water's edge. Bathroom about halfway through trail at a little rest spot/clearing. Potential negatives: trail gets muddy after rain, wear shoes that can handle mud. Also, limited seating at the end (one bench, pretty windy) if you're the picnicking type plan accordingly.

It was very muddy. This may have been due to heavy rain two days prior. It was very slippy at times The hike doesn't offer much in the ways of views being mostly under forest. The "snout" at the end is very pleasant and windy.

Get ready for a long walk. The views along this path are truly remarkable. make sure you apply sunscreen generously before your departure. The path was muddy at times but never unreasonably so. Plenty of beaches along the way to dip your toes in. I recommend leaving before 7:00am if you are planning on making a return trip.

Beautiful easy track with a view of Queen Charlotte Sound

Lot of great lookout spots on the way. There is heaps of birds and we got lucky with seal in the tip. So definitely go all the way :)

Great walk, definitely recommend wearing good footwear especially in winter as the track can get muddy. Easy and slightly undulating great for all fitness levels.

Trail is really sloppy right now for winter (June 2019). Might want to avoid if you have other options.

Shaded trail (except for the start/end of the track) with gorgeous Sound views and moderate elevation gain. Pack a light picnic for when you reach the tip.

I would recommend this walk for anyone who wants to do a long or short walk as you can go to many different places. there is lots of shade in some areas but in some parts (along the road) there are is no shade.

Loved it, shady with a nice view! Just look out for tree roots in places along the way!

Lot of fun! Sometimes hard to see the water, which can be frustrating if ferries go past.

Great views. Nice trail before take the ferry

Nice trail with nice views of the Picton harbor and sound along the way. Toilet about halfway out. Moderate fitness is all that’s needed for this one.

We really enjoyed the Snout Trail in late May. The trail was maintained well. It was a bit muddy after a recent rain, but was still very reasonable. The views were stunning and very frequent until the Queen Charlotte overlook. After that, the trail goes down quite steeply into the forest until you reach the final clearing at sea level. If you’re just interested in views, I’d recommend turning around at Queen Charlotte. Otherwise, it’s a great hike throughout!

if you like to walk through thick bush with just a few areas to see the view of the Sounds, then you will love this hike! if not, then you will be bored quickly. there are very nice views of the Sounds but only a very small percent of the time.
