belle randonnée avec de super paysages. prévoir minimum 2l d'eau et de la crème solaire si les conditions sont bonnes. penser a réserver la navette (aller-retour) pour la rando et compter 6-7 h de marche si vous êtes en forme.

on Tama Lakes Loop

really beautiful walk. not hard, just long. the last part up to the upper tama lake is the only challenging part (or better to say the way down) because its slippery on the loose rocks. other than that really recommendable! not as crowded as the crossing and absolutely beautiful scenery! if you can't do the crossing, do this!! sun protection is advised since there is no forest after the Taranaki Falls.

very weather dependent. had a good day, not too hot (end of november). it's a bit hyped and therefore also very crowded. it's not as hard as they say in my opinion. the devil's staircase and the way down from the red crater are the most challenging parts. at the end of the track you have a long descending walk through bushes and later on through the forest. beautiful but not super exciting. you will be sweating your arse off and have wind on the top parts, so pack a jacket, even when the weather is good. it changes fast up there. in good weather conditions you can't get lost, just follow the string of people... can't say anything about other weather conditions.

Really cool hike especially when you get to Mt Doom (volcano), the red crater and emerald lakes. Lots of lava rocks too. it is a good and nice hike but a bit overhyped. This hike is very weather dependent so if you have a good day, do the hike that day. Don't hold off on the hike for another day. high traffic trail and the busiest I saw in New zealand. I didn't find this hike to be too challenging but would definitely recommend some hiking experience. There is a bit of an uphill climb which I didnt think was too difficult. The downhill from the red crater to the lakes is a bit tricky as it all scree and small loose rocks that make it slippery. DO NOT do this hike barefoot (which people ppl actually do) since it's all small sharp rocks. Would recommend tramping boots for this one. Open trail with not much coverage so Bring lots of water, sunscreen, cap, hat, gloves etc. Dress in layers!! - its alpine climate so the weather changes. Cold and windy at the highest point you will reach so bring a jacket and a raincoat.

We started the hike at 7am. Once we got to the red crater, it was very cloudy. It was SO cloudy that we didn’t even see the crater, the lakes, nothing! So we had to stay and wait a bit for it to clear out, and boy... are we happy we did! The view is just amazing. Totally worth the hike! The climb up was better than expected, so don’t get disencouraged!

Tout simplement la plus belle randonné faite !

Lots of volcanic scenery. The hike up is nice, the steep scramble down just when you get over the highest point was hard, down a steep sandy hill is not my thing. Last few km's through the forest were nice. It's a good hike, but a bit overhyped.

Nice short hike, pretty Views, well maintained trail. You’ll have some company on it, but not crowded. Some parts are rocky, others have gravel and loose rock. Parts are open to direct sun, others are well shaded so dress for sun exposure. Nice hotel with fun bar at the end at Skotel alpine resort.

The shuttles canceled because of the weather and the front desk at our hotel was dismissive when we said we would try to do it anyway, saying there was going to be 125 km gusts. Ultimately what we did was drove to the end of the hike and parked our car. We hiked 6 miles until the Blue Lakes section and turned around. At that point it got really windy and really cold, so going any further would have been difficult. The 2 women that also did the hike with us turned back at around the 3 mile mark because of the wind, but it really wasn’t bad until we hit the blue lakes. Anyway, was definitely worth it. The lake was beautiful and great overlooks throughout the hike. If the shuttles get canceled, I definitely suggest our plan...It’s your typical gradual incline difficulty but average hikers can handle it. Took us 3 hours 45 mins to the blue lakes with plenty of stops. 2 hours back.

Incredible, once in a lifetime track. I am a fit male in my mid 30s and this was HARD. My pregnant wife was also with me but we were able to complete the track in about 7hrs. Bring plenty of water and food. The only down side was there was alot of people and alot that were seriously ill prepared for a track of this nature. Wearing your tennis shoes and yoga pants isn't being prepared!

Short and easy

Like they say , one of the best day hikes there is ! Do it ! It’s long and a bit tough but so worth every step. Definitely a highlight of my trip to NZ !

Nice easy walk with great landscape views. It's an easy 6k/1.5 hour loop walk. you can go two ways, we followed the river up to the falls, and then overland back to the start. Majority of up hill is this way, although not much uphill there is a reasonable 100 stair climb up to the top of the falls. great views of the peaks.

Well formed and marked trail, no steps, suitable for buggies. Features a swimming hole in the river on the western side.

Hard trail that provides beautiful views. We got to the trailhead at 9:30AM and finished a bit before 4PM. The way up and down are both challenging. Bring lots of water, layers, and hiking poles as much of the trail is exposed and many parts are rocky and prone to sliding.

Nothing too special but pretty chill. You don't see the lake a lot, mostly in bush.
