No bridge to cross the river near the lake

very good trail, perhaps a bit harder than rated. Great views, suggest aclimitization for two days in CDMX (~ 7,000 feet) and one more at the trail base (13,000). Then for those fit, up and back in 12-14 hours, or if a bit older and/or not as fit, there is a good place to overnight (shelter) or camp at a place called El Refugio, which is at about 15,500 feet and about 4-5 hours from the summit. Really beautiful trail ! Will meet some wonderful people along the way. Of course crampons required to get across about 1/2 kilometer of glacier, just before summit.

Not bad. It’s a beautiful the trail ends in a cool cascade where you can chill and go back, there’s a Hotel there which is not great and through the trial you can see houses. I’d do it again.

Nice trail. Beautiful views of two lakes and the surrounding mountains. We finished our 10km route in about 3 hours. There are several alternative trails that aren’t the official trail, but all are easy to find, and there are enough people walking around that you can always see where to go (you won’t get lost). Keep in mind the high altitude may affect you, so bring plenty of water and take breaks as needed. Oh, and the drive to get to the trailhead was about 1hr 20min on the entry road, and it was very ROUGH; unpaved, rocky, and difficult even for my 4WD Jeep. But it was fun all around and we may come back again!

Very exciting trail, difficult in some sections but with beautiful views. We started at 1am and we arrived to “La rodilla” (The Knee) just in time for the sunrise, this was a wonderful moment. Walking on the glacier, arrive to the summit and contemplate the landscape in all directions was an unforgettable experience.

This is a long but beautiful trail. At about the mile 2.2, I walked on the left side narrow trail that goes near the arroyo with fantastic vistas, then I took again the dirty road and return by the other side. Most of the trail you walk trough the forest full of plants and pine trees. At the top, the site and the views are wonderful!. I had an unforgettable experience.

this is a classic Mexico hike. however you must spend the night before at high elevation. There are many campsites near the trail head at 4000m elevation. serious hiking gear required. Poles a must for coming down the numerous ravelling gravel slopes. I started from Mexico City that day and could not make it past 4900m; body shut down but I did not expect to summit not having had time to acclimatize. even if you make it half the way still a great scenic hike up a volcano.

THE HARDEST trail/hike I have EVER done and I’ve done 6,000ft elevation gain and 26 miles in a day to a 12,700ft peak in the USA. My husband and I acclimated amazing to the extremely high altitude. This is the highest altitude we’ve ever hiked at. Extremely STEEP incline for 75% of the hike. Some points were pretty rocky and sandy and tons of sliding. We did not use any trekking poles, but those would be highly recommended. Such an amazing hike and to see the Lago de Sol and de Luna. The wind was probably the only thing that made the hike less enjoyable- gusts up to around 40mph. Insane. So worth every bit of elevation gain.

Climbing to the summit of Ixta is not super difficult if you are acclimated to the altitude. Camped at the Altomoni hut and summit in the morning at sunrise. Good prep for Orizaba if that’s on your climb list. Beautiful at the top with great views!

Very hard, lots of different terrains. From big round boulders to sharp stacked rocks, sand walls and dust paths. I definitely got altitude sick, but an amazing experience. I went with a guide, and used more water then expected.

I did this trail trail as my first higher altitude hike. The views are breathtaking. You drive up to the edge of the krater and walk in to the crater and climb up to the top. It’s way down is one long steep “path” straight down over loose gravel and rock which will take every last bit of energy from the upper legs. Going down with the car I got a splitting headache from the big altitude change over too short of a time.
