This is a fantastic hike, fairly rigorous with fantastic coastal vistas and beaches. We took a cab to Boca where our driver found the trailhead. We hiked about an hour to a beautiful little beach where there is a Restauraunt called Ocean Grille. (About an hour in). We made reservations the night before on dining app. Reservations for 11,12,and 1 only. Be sure to book. It was fantastic gourmet food and beautiful setting. Expensive but worth it. $80 for 2. After a swim we hiked to Los Animales. The path is up and down a little rugged but well maintained. Fantastic rocky / beach spots with some strong surf. Great picture taking vistas. Las Animales is about 1:20 from ocean grille. We took a water taxi back to Boca $100 pesos for 2. This is a beautiful hike that I wouldn’t miss.

This was an incredibly picturesque trail. Anyone who starts from Las Animas instead of Boca is missing out. Yes, there is a cantina on the waterfall but buying a water of water gets you access. Although, pretty sure you could swim up the river and not pay to use the access point. Having bathrooms and changing rooms for wet clothes was well worth it. Out of respect for others, if you do this trail, please don't take donkey or horse. It isn't difficult elevation or terrain wise and the animal feces takes away from the experience.

Sometimes we were not sure if we were on the trail. The ocean views made it worth it.

Find nacho he has horses but he will also go for a scenic hike 200 pesos per person. He is the most fun and will take you where there aren’t other tourists.

Beautiful walk , easy for any age as long as you can stay upright

Great trail close by the Guadalajara metropolitan area, on the North of the city. Can be accessed by car and public transportation Just to correctly locate, there are two “Barrancas”. Oblatos which is an easy 5 km hike located on Avenida Periferico Norte. The Barranca de Huentitán, located in the Avenida Belisario Domínguez, is the one trail that will take you to the river. The trail traffic is crowded on the weekends. In the early mornings you see many trail runners, local habitants and tourists. We visited on January 4th, 2020 The trail to the river and historic Arcediano bridge is about 5.8km, 1.2h in a slow pace. So mind a 2 to 3h total hike. Take water, supplies and trash bag with you as you won’t find them down the trail. Also no restroom is available until you reach the lowest portion of the trail, where you see a chemical toilet, which does not seem to be maintained. It starts with a concrete stairway with a few small local businesses, where you can find food, refreshments, buy supplies for your hike. The stairway ends up in the chapel. You will see some people warming up and stretching. Now it the trail starts with switch backs of stoned path. Be prepared to use your legs and knees, it’s quite demanding irregular path. The scenery is nice, as you can see the canyon and the river at the bottom. Along the way down you find different landscapes, from stone path surrounded by trees with shadow to semi arid thin soil with cactus, to dense forest where it is signaled “Herradura path”, where you feel a cooler air. The trail is well signaled and you can go to different paths. On the way to the Arcediano bridge you will pass a bridge by a waterfall. Unfortunately the water is contaminated by city waste, so we were able to se chemical foam and a funky smell. The trail is most of the way clean, but you can find some trash left by visitors. We were able to see other trails and pathways, but since those were not signaled, we did not risk to explore The overall impression is great, as it is a wonderful preserved natural area with beautiful fauna and flora. Great place to practice hiking conditioning.

Beautiful hike. A bit of a challenging up and down at the start, but well worth it for the coastline views. Took an hour and 40 minutes start to finish. So plenty of time to make stops along the way, and take all the ocean pictures you need. Easily found the footbridge instead of starting out by wading through a river in Boca. Nice to start the day with dry feet. First 750m does go through the town and past resident’s homes. But it’s clear you’re on a path, this is the road that anyone who lives in Boca takes to get home, didn’t feel like I was intruding at all. There are some signs to point toward the trail instead of private property at this section and later on near Les Animas when the trail passes through a few resorts. All beaches are federal land, so you’re not trespassing. The only hairy part of the trail is the descent into Colomitos. This section is sandy and steep, so gets slippery. At Playa Colomitos, the Ocean Grill has a sign up advertising $50USD minimum for purchase. By far the part of the trail is past Playa Colomitos. Amazing secluded beaches and beautiful shoreline views. Great swimming at Les Animas and the beach was not too busy. Took water taxi back to Boca, $50 pesos per person (2 people). Then took the bus back to downtown PV $10 pesos per person

This is pretty hard and with very little reward. Yes some of the beaches are nice but the jungle is hot humid and boring. Also goes through people's backyards. I would advise to take the boat to Las animas and then just walk along the beaches till the restaurants. Rest is not very good.

Really nice hike above Ajijic. Get to the waterfalls in October. Absolutely serene!

Started the trail on the bathroom side of the loop. It goes up at the beginning but then starts to come down. Easy hike. Getting to the river is worth it. Pack a snack and take off your shoes to dip your feet in the cool water. It’s refreshing. Then keep going and head up the steps to the botanical garden visitor center. Easy peasy!

This was a pretty trail that goes through beaches, rocky terrain, boardwalks, and dirt trails. Worth it, but easy to go the wrong way in a couple of places. You’ll reroute pretty quickly, though. The open beach you come to about halfway is beautiful. There was a pack of dogs that barked at me, but didn’t really approach. I took the water taxi back to Boca. Just walk out onto the dock and just yell “Boca!” Someone will tell you what boat to hop on. They charged me $150 pesos. Enjoy!

Good hike!!

Went down the main trail, crossed the river at the pipe bridge walked along the far side of the river to the suspension bridge crossed back and ascended the black dashed trail where a large rockfall wooed out a good portion of the trail ~1 month ago. Good fun scramble for adventurous ones. Some locals do it daily and appreciate the adventure :)

Thoroughly enjoyed this trail! My husband and I decided to continue on the trail after a rest in Las Animas and were rewarded with the beautiful secluded beaches at Quimixto. We had a delicious fish dinner on the beach while watching the surfers. A water taxi back to Boca was 50 pesos each.
