Worth the effort! A very clear path the whole way, albeit a bit rocky in some places. The last 50 feet down to the beach is down some sharp slippery rocks, but we all made it just fine. Definitely better to wear close toed shoes, bring a hat because there’s no shade at all, and bring 2 bottles of water, and bring your swimsuit! Would definitely do this hike again, the views were unreal. Still worth it, even though we saw no sea lions on this day.

Fun trail. Not very hard but a nice work out. Didn’t see any sea lions, but still rewarding with some stunning views. lose rocks at points but I did it comfortably in trainers and my partner in sandals.

great morning hike. we went to the beach at the end of the trail and found the trail easy to follow, though a bit steep in a couple spots. On the way back we did the side trail to see the sea lions, that part is a bit of a scramble at times with long spines cactus right along side the rough trail. it was worth it though - the views are fantastic and in addition to the sea lions we saw at least 6 whales spouting and coming to the surface. Wear a hat and good hiking shoes and bring plenty of water.

Chunk of the trail was a little suspect so didn’t make our way all the way to the water. But it was awfully pretty.

Great hike and beautiful views.

Went on 4/27/19, when I started around 915 am there was a lot of fog coming in from the ocean and couldn't see into the distance. by the time I finished around 1130 the fog had burned off. The cliffs leading down to the beach have some nice views. The trail is easy to follow. if you head down to the beach it gets pretty rocky. Overall the trail is in good shape though.

it is a nice and easy hike. the trail is very easy to find and see. what made it very special for us was to see the wales.

Great trail for running, hiking or mountain biking. Lots of ups and downs, twists and turns. Great views.

The trail was easy to find and follow. It had some moderate elevation change. My wife and I spent about 3 hours on it. We did some exploring off trail. Amazing views! Saw whales and sea lions. I would highly recommend hiking it.

We loved this hike. We did the hike and spent some time splashing in the water and exploring the area at the bottom of the hill. It starts near the busy fishing area, but it's really easy to follow. We went midday and it was pretty hot, but we bought water and were so happy that we made it there. We shared more photos here: https://thetumblingnomads.com/sugar-port-trail/

Map is accurate and so are directions.Beautiful views, you can take this trail in to town too at the connection point (there are placards at the top near benches). Impossible to get lost. Great run!

A great hike up and over the coastal hills down to the walls of the old port used to ship out sugar. The walls in the Port itself were built in the late 1800's. At one time there were 8 sugar mills loading their product here and sending it out to sea. They lasted until the area ran out of water in the 1950's. Hurricanes have ravaged the road but it is still hikable but a rocky scramble in some areas. Glad I finally got down and walked the ancient walls next to the beautiful little protected bay they were built in.

Drove across Baja to visit a friend and do these trails with a dead phone... Great trail system for down here...

There is a whole trail system here. Easy climb up in the foothills. You can connect to a few different trails. I took a 6.1 mile trip and it was fantastic.
