The trail was muddy throughout and there was a lot of people. There are 2 stream crossings, but they can be navigated without getting wet. The waterfall is definitely worth the hike.

not a trail, just an unremarkable roadside waterfall. Continue on to Waimoku if you want something interesting.

Trail is best enjoyed early in the morning (before 9am) since the tourists driving the Road To Hana can't reach it quickly-- Camping in the park and hiking first thing in the morning is recommended. Gets extraordinarily crowded in the afternoon, even on off-season weekdays. Extremely muddy and wet in the winter, definitely requires full hiking boots to be enjoyable. saw many folks in tennis shoes and flip-flops trudging back down, discouraged. Trail to the waterfall is a consistent uphill, slightly steep in spots, with many stone stair portions. It took us about an hour and a half to climb it, and half that returning. The first waterfall is pretty unremarkable, and if at all possible you should at least continue to the waterfall at the bridge before the bamboo forest to make the trip worth it. The final river crossing to stand before the last waterfall can be treacherous and should be considered optional-- the views before it are just as good as those after, and the trail stops twenty feet past the crossing. If you want to attempt it, grab a length of bamboo to help you across the rocks before you exit the forest, if some has fallen conveniently.

Pools are currently closed (1/15/2020), though still pretty to observe. More exciting ocean rock formations and surf spouts at Black Sands Beach NW of Hana though. Educational trail was fairly uninteresting, but comparatively accessible for folks who can't do more technical trails. Connected oceanside hammock camping was definitely the highlight of this place.

The campground and connected trails are easily accessible with a 2WD sedan if you're at all familiar with driving on dirt/gravel roads-- don't let the signs discourage you, we did it in our Corolla like it was nothing-- just watch out for potholes and muddy spots if it's been raining. Trail was lovely and seemed freshly marked (contrary to earlier reviews). There are ample spots to hammock camp amongst the redwoods, which the barren and treeless "campground" does not provide, just be very mindful of potential deadfall trees in these shady old growth forests. Be very careful if you venture inside the abandoned cabins, as the floors are rotting out.

Short trail to overlook of crater. Nice walk. Some boulders are a high step.

Very fun trail. Overgrown with bamboo but that just makes it feel more like an adventure. Download the map before going as there is no service in the area. Not having a map also made it more fun in a way.

Great trail- some good views but sadly there was a lot of cloud cover from 1.5 miles on up to the top. I can only imagine the views with the cloud cover gone. Also very muddy after rain. Sandals aren’t the best choice although I did wear my tevas and didn’t slip but many other people we passed who were wearing chacos said they slipped. The only downside is my feet got very muddy but that’s okay- free pedicure! Take in the views when you have them you never know when the cloud cover is coming in and the views are beautiful!

We started at 11pm and it was heavy drizzle/light rain. Half our party who was not dressed for the weather, turned around. Took us 7 hours with lots of picture breaks and a few snacks. The clouds did break for a while and we were able to take off our rain gear to dry out and warm up. Even though we were hiking within the clouds a lot, the views between the clouds were amazing. Would do it again - hopefully in more sun!

Awesome trail. Very soft and runnable - more so on the way down. The trail was pretty well marked until the end, we weren’t sure which way to go since the trails changed names. Waited a few days from the rain but was still a bit muddy around 3.8 miles in. I ended up at 9.2 miles total from our turn around where we didn’t see more mahana trail signs.

Started at Fleming Beach. We completed about 1/2 the hike (turned back at the reservoir), partially due to loosing the trail and partially due to time constraints. To that point, the trail was well worn & more moderate than difficult. Terrain and vegetation was varied and interesting. Majority was in shade. In spite of 3 days of rain, the trail was slick but not muddy. It was a good escape trail.

Sufficient parking since most people don’t linger that long. Heavily trafficked but not crowded. Very picturesque. Was extremely windy (some sort of eyewear recommended due to blown particulate). Some areas are challenging to negotiate. Please heed posted warnings.
