Yes the trail is muddy but passable. Quick hike with a nice view from the top

Views are breathtaking. Worth every step! We did it with a two year and 5 month old in a pack. Our 6 and 7 year old also completed this! The shuttle bus is fast and efficient if you can’t get a parking reservation. It took us 8 solid hours.

Tough trail as it had been raining for weeks but very rewarding views, prepare to wade streams and get wet. If you don’t have a permit which get booked well in advance then park at the beach a mile way and walk to the trail head

We hiked this trail on Saturday, January 18. Started at 10:30 and took just over 5 hours to complete. Cool to begin (55 degrees) so it was good to have light jackets to start. The trail was in pretty good condition as there hasn’t been a lot of rain the past few days. Overgrown in a couple of spots - my wife figures she would have preferred pants, but I was fine in shorts. We are in our mid fifties and had a great hike, though we did take it slow on the steeper, slippery sections. Socked in at the end lookout, but some great views and diverse terrain along the way.

Cool to begin at 55 degrees so started with light jackets. It’s been dryer the past few days so the trail was in decent condition but you will get muddy. Hiked it 4 years ago and it is now more overgrown in spots but easily doable. My wife would have liked hiking pants but I was fine in shorts. We are in our mid fifties and took our time on the slippery sections. The lookout at the end of the Swamp Trail was socked in but the hike is well worth the 5 hours it took.

We biked this trail and it was gorgeous!

Short but sweet. This trail is very steep and has a rope for people to hold on to. You will want good shoes and both hands free to hold the rope for the steepest slipperiest parts. The beach reward is worth it if you are physically able to do the rope part and my 14 year old loved the whole adventure.

You have to walk up the stairs of the backside of the fort . beautiful beach views

Muddy and slick. Awesome views up past the picnic table area. In and out in just under three hours with stops for pics, snacks.

360 vistas worth it! Even in hiking boots with sticks the trail was slippery with mud, esp on the steeper volcanic rocky sections at the beginning. Easier coming up than going down. We were advised by a couple gents who were exiting as we arrived at the trail head that really only the first 0.25-0.5 mi were worth while... they were covered in mud. If you want best photos then go super early in the a.m. as the clouds were rolling in to make the incredible Pacific Ocean views over the canyon quite hazy by 11 am or so.

This was a beautiful trail. The first two miles follow the coast to secret beach, which was amazing. The second two miles follow the river to the falls. There were several river crossings most with no way to stay dry. The are some areas with slippery rocks, so bring appropriate footwear and maybe some extra socks. I was glad I wore hiking boots. This trail is 8 miles round trip and pretty treacherous in some areas but the views of the Na Pali coast, the beach, and the waterfall make it totally worth it.

A fun and quick hike up and back with the help of the ropes. Beautiful beach at the bottom and fantastic for sunset!! So glad we did this.

My wife and I did this with our 5 month old. We arrived around 730am and were the first ones on the trial. It’s been the first sunny day this week and even though it was muddy the fact that we didn’t have rain made it so much less slippery. Just embrace the mud ‘cause it’s going to get you if you make it all the way out - it’ll be a lot faster than tinkering around everything. Our 5 mo old was a champ the entire time. Def a must!

Very muddy and slick. Wife fell and fractured her wrist. Worth weighing risk vs reward.

Dry and sunny even when it's raining elsewhere on Kauai, really spectacular coastal hike. Stop at the cave for a break. So much to see on this hike... cliffs, heiau, golf course with mountain views (a nice break in the middle to walk on flat grass!), beaches, streams, horse ranch. Bring water, it was hot and dry even in Jan on a cloudy day.

Super cool views, and occasional hump back whale sightings. Not something I would consider a “hike,” but certainly a beautiful tourist attraction. It does cost $10 per person to get in, but if you have a National Parks pass admission is free.

Great little hike along the shore. Perfect for a day with less than perfect weather conditions. A good bit of up and down and the parts right above the ocean are rocky and uneven. We wore hiking boots and were glad we did, but most people were in sneakers and a few were in flip flops.
