Highlight of Hyrda during my stay. Well marked trail with incredible views. I ran it in a clockwise direction. Bring lots of water as the trails gets extremely hot as the day progresses.

Great challenging hike. At the peak were many mountain goats. At the top you have to be careful not to lose the trail. There are blue squares on rocks marking it but they can be a bit hard to follow. Take plenty of water. There is non available once you are in the mountains .

Great trail but difficult and you need to have hiking shoes as the terrain gets tough and very rocky. You’ll be in the sun quite a bit and also need plenty of water. We didn’t see any goats but the views were breathtaking.

The first half of this trail is lovely. Good climb but not too hard. Where it goes awry is the middle of the suggested route. After the ascent to the delapadated windmill below the monastery, the trail provided sends you on a route that - save the St. Nikolas monastery view - takes you to the island’s dump and then down a switchback dirt road that gets to sea level just behind the town dirt pile. You would be much better served by taking the left at the windmill and down the foot path that takes you to the low rode along the water that goes to Mandraki. It’s shorter, but it avoids the dump and the sheep/donkey farm out to the north eastern slope past Mandraki.

Really well signed with a good trail. It did take us much longer than we expected since the path goes up and down quite a lot. At the summit of Eros, the map shows that there is a path down the mountain on the other side but we could not find this so we had to back track.

Walked the steep end of the paved trail up to the monastery and back. Good views of the port most of the way up, quiet and peaceful at the monastery. Take lots of water! There’s a small, beautiful chapel inside the monastery which was open when we stopped by. There’s also a honesty shop just inside the front door that sells water, beer and an assortment of trinkets.

The views and the solitude were great! Most of the hike had full sun exposure and the trail had a few scrambles and long stretches of rough terrain. Be sure to bring plenty of water on a hot day, 2 liters per person or more. We started in Hydra and went straight up to the monastery and summit. The hike to the monastery was mostly paved and had good tree cover. After the monastery the trail got hot, rough and the number of people thinned. There were plenty of goats to keep us company though. The view from the summit was incredible and totally worth it. If I were doing it again, I would turn back here. The remainder of the hike had views but was hot and slow going over the rough trail. We didn't bring enough water for the heat so when we got down from the mountain to the first harbor, we called a sea taxi to bring us a few beaches over to get food and water and skipped the last part of the hike along the shore which was the flatest part of the hike.
