I started the route at the Ashtead end, with plenty of parking in neighbouring roads. Somehow I managed to miss the path to the pond, so had another bit of a re-route. Ashtead Common is a lovely area for walking, riding and cycling; even in the rain. I’ve only given the route 3 stars because there are much better paths for hikers, which will keep you away from the mountain bikers and horse riders. The area is definitely 5 stars though, with lots to see and explore.

Beautiful - add a stop at Polesden Lacy

Peaceful trail mostly through woodland but little variation in scenery

Excellent. Straight from the car park into a beautiful woodland walk. And the views from the top of hurtwood are stunning if you like forest walks them would recommend.

Lovely walk through the trees and up to the most amazing views

Nice walk. If you start off following the purple route that will take you 2/3rds to the other car park, then you can follow the map to go around some interesting trees, houses and a lake.

Very easy to follow. Particularly like stopping at Holmbury St Mary cricket club. Very pleasant hike through a lovely part of Surrey Hills

Loved this little walk, through the woodlands, very nice trail, few uphill bits, we have a 3 month baby we take with on all our walks, struggled a bit with the buggy wouldn’t recommend but we’ve had harder trails with it. Would do again

Very good :) I live in Epsom so it isn’t that far away and its a nice get away trip

Peaceful walk, plenty of shade on a sunny July day. Overgrown past Rodsall Cottage to steps, and a little in places past the Rainbow’s End gate.

Lovely walk. Quiet and very picturesque

Woodland walk with two nice viewpoints, a long sunken path, large patch of bluebells (late April) and lots of mountain bike paths.

Nice walk a bit boring though

incredibly muddy in patches. not the most interesting walk, but ponds might be nice on a good day

Lovely walk, took me an hour and 20 mins on a sunny February afternoon. Superb views.

We loved this walk - and so did our very lively dog! Definitely be doing it again. Agree about the last stretch being long but it was a nice steady climb.

Very pleasant walk. No mud in November. There is always a little motorway background noise.

Great walk, with lots to see and the views are as described which are fantastic. Directions were accurate as always and this could be one of my regular walks for sure!

Lovely walk. Not too steep hills or too muddy. Very well guided instructions.

Lovely walk, thoroughly enjoyed it & am going again at the weekend.

Car park 5 is closed for logging at the moment. ADMIN RESPONSE: Thank you for letting us know. We can see from the Friends of the Hurtwood website that the car park will be closed for the remainder of 2016. We have updated the walk details accordingly with temporary parking arrangements.
