Good trair for dogs, we deviated via a foot path cutting out a road. The deviation went through a golf course most the way and was extremely muddy and golfers werent best pleased even though its a public foot path. Parking is £4 for the day, toilets are free.

An Interesting and varied walk, with hidden offerings you’d never spot without the instructions. Though very wet and muddy in patches at the moment (Jan) which made it all quite slippery at times on the edge of the river. The part around the road wasn’t very pleasant as the path was so narrow and there sadly seems to be a huge amount of fly tipping from the road down to the path area. I imagine you could cut that section out if you wanted to though. The walk up to castle summit was great on the other hand and the views far reaching for such a short climb. It only added around 20 minutes in for me to do the add on, and you get to see a fire beacon and a war memorial a little further on that that. I would do it again but perhaps cut out the main road loop. Definitely one for proper walking boots. The whole route took me around 90 minutes, though without the flooded patches on the fields and riverside slipperiness it properly would have been more like 60. Lots of lovely buildings to see in Mountsorrel so definitely worth factoring in time for a pint in one of the cosy looking pubs.

Great trail, beautiful scenery. Great cafe called Sutton Wharf!

Reasonably flat but muddy in places (Jan 2020). 1/2 the walk skirts the perimeter of the airfield the other 1/2 is mainly through woodland with a small section along a main road but there is a pavement.

A great walk after Christmas excess. Nothing challenging, a bit wet underfoot in places which is no surprise after the rain we’ve had.

a very nice and long walk with lots of nice things to see but a bit muddy at this time in the year

Lovely figure of 8 through to Ilston (where there is a lovely pub in the centre called The Fox & Goose!) Tends to be pretty soft going under foot but no huge climbs and generally all well signposted. Suitable for dogs!

A gentle walk mostly by the side of the canal. Terrible conditions at the moment due to all the rain but surrounded by lovely countryside. The Black Horse pub also has a tea room that welcomes dogs - we didn’t try it out though.

This is a very easy fairly flat walk between fields. You don’t get much of a view of the river as the banks are very overgrown, however there is a point where you cross it on stepping stones - much to my pups delight as he could get his paws wet! There is a little bit of off road parking - for about 3 cars- and as it’s close to the local aerodrome the skies were full of light aircraft and helicopters which makes a change from road noise!

Hope you enjoy it as much as we did

What a lovely trail. Reservoir, forest, fields, and lanes. I recommend a stop over in the Melbourne Hall cafe.

Trail starts at golf course, took us a while to find because of new estate. Wouldn’t recommend wearing shorts

Great views, minimal shade, open fields, some of the paths nearer Mowsley are overgrown with brambles !! Lots of undulation

Farm friendly walk, parked in a lay-by which gave access to the public footpath. Then a circular walk following a clear stream up to the canal. We took the footpaths back across the fields rather than heading to the marina, as that would have taken the last part of the walk along the main road (no footpath). Plenty of wildlife including a couple of beautiful buzzards.

Was hoping for access to the reservoir but alas most footpaths around here are private. Ended up doing a small loop with mainly roads without any footpaths, not recommended.

excellent directions, gentle walk

We only did the walk around the reservoir but it was a nice walk with car parks at either end of the road, very flat surface all the way around, suitable for dog walking, pushchairs and wheelchairs also. There is a small cafe half way round which has drinks and snacks. As well as many pubs signposted just off the route for a sit down and a drink.

loved the first half of this walk, lots of scenery and nature to ponder over. However after the Bagworth heath carpark there isn't much to look at for about 2 miles as it's an enclosed bridal way and it feels like a little bit of a slog.

Two steep places, one going down and one coming back up, one path over grown, but once on the river it is a fantastic relaxing walk

no clear route between Ashby road and the golf course. ended up walking to Ashby parva...

My wife and I along with our 13 yr old lad thoroughly enjoyed this walk.. the route is descriptive and easy to follow.. scenery is not out of this world but it's beautiful none the less.. we walked just over 10km and would definitely return. I will add some photos shortly :)

Moderate walk , beautiful countryside and so many different things to see . Up hills and through woods , around fishing ponds , past an old mill and over train lines. The walk is varied and a lot to see . Walking today in May the bird song was amazing , topped off with Sunday lunch at the bricklayers!

Really enjoyed this walk. Lovely cafe at the start, parking is a reasonable cost and there is plenty to see. The walk to the tower and monument also give you a nice workout - but you can do a there and back and keep to the paved track if you wish. All dogs must be kept on leads because of the deer and other wildlife. The whole area is very well managed and free from litter, etc. It would be a great place to take a picnic and we shall visit again in the future.
