I'm in two minds whether to recommend this walk. We completed it in mid January 2020 on a fine dry but foggy day following months of very wet weather. For the most part the route is obvious even in poor visibility but significant sections of the trail go through open fields or pasture which was obscured by fog on our trip. Our main gripe was the huge areas of boot sucking gunk in these pathless sections and elsewhere after weeks of rain. There was no view from the high point on Yellow Hill and I had to use my hand-held GPS to stay on track. After crossing a deep mud-filled gulley that resembled a WW1 battlefield, there are some scenic sections when the path rejoins the River Darwen. This walk should only be done after a prolonged dry spell. I can recommend the Butlers Arms in Pleasington.

Road walk at the start and end but otherwise very dog friendly. Great views - combination of lakes, reservoirs, moorland, river and woodland. A steep incline and descent along with flat sections

Footpath non-existing for long stretches resulting in slow progress and some frustration. If in doubt, I suggest sticking close to a fence. Thick fog for most of the time, very muddy and have to cross and walk through several streams. Quagmire at places. Ensure sufficient battery on phone for directions and map. Windproof and waterproof gear highly recommended. Icy, muddy, slippery.

Nice and flat. Muddy at the start but once you are down to the river it's OK. We detoured out to see Stoneyhust College on th way back so had it at 12km.

First walk testing out the App so far soo good

Well worth a visit even in winter. Beautifully scenic with lots of wildlife. Take a couple of quid for the car park.

Great trail but I choose the wrong time of year. first half was just so wet and boggy even my waterproof walking boots wasnt any use. second half was drier and really enjoyable. I will have to try it again in summer and hopefully boost up my review

Great place to go trail running. I start in bamber bridge and can fit in about 14km of trails heading up to Chorley and back. great if you want to just go for a walk as well. most if not all the paths are good for wheelchairs and prams.

Really enjoyed this walk, not hard going.

did this with my 7year old son,, lovely views
