Very nice trail, especially when you get to the lava rocks section. Easy trail unless you have some disability that affects walking on uneven terrain / rocks. Otherwise really just a nice walk with a few muddy sections to get around if it’s pouring (as it was for us). Worth the hike, even on a day that doesn’t have a clear view of the volcano. It’s been 4 days of constant rain for us with no sign on sun, and we still thoroughly enjoyed this trail- nothing serious.

Overall good trail. Beautiful blue waters and wonderful waterfall. Got a good workout going up and down the stairs. It was muddy and a little crowded with many tour groups but still enjoyable. Also saw a coral snake!

Nice trail with views of Arenal Volcano and lake

This was a fantastic find. We are avid hikers that prefer off the beaten path hikes. We got here around 12:00, opted for a non-toured hike ($26 per person), and hit the trail. We were pleasantly surprised by the amount of space and privacy we had while hiking despite a full parking lot! We saw multiple monkeys and pit vipers. The hanging bridges are exactly as advertised - stunning!!

This was a great trail. Good elevation, scenic views, and stunning wildlife. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing a troop of monkeys on the trail. I would highly recommend hiking shoes or boots. The lava rock could tear up regular tennis shoes.

this is the best view of the volcano in the area. trails were great. we saw some monkeys and a tone fo birds. trails were great and entrance was $16 per adult. we did a total of 7 miles and about 700 net elevation. we spent a total of 4 hours there and had lunch at the observation point. pack a lunch the restaurant is way pricey.

This was a very enjoyable trail, which is perfect for families with young children. The main viewpoint is wonderful. We suggest bringing a snack on the trail only to enjoy it at the view point. Pros: easy to moderate hike. Wonderful views. Clean rest area. Cons: when cloudy or raining, view of volcano will be limited. Lots of rocks.

Poas is an extremely amazing and active volcano and if that’s all you want to see, you should go for it. But it’s $15 per person to get in, you must pay online ahead of time and when you get to the park you only have 20 minutes to view the crater then 20 minutes to leave the park. We thought we would be able to do the hike to the lake while we were there but that was closed, along with the visitor center and cafe. It was sort of a ghost town and looked like the buildings hadn’t been occupied for some time. It was kind of disappointing and we honestly enjoyed the drive up there more than the park itself.

Great hike today along both the forest and lava trails, 3 miles total, about 2.5 hours. Regular closed shoes are fine as the walk is largely flat and well maintained, with some muddy and rocky areas that would make sandals not a good choice. Important additional information: access is $16 per person, and the parking area appears to be fairly secure. The pass allows entrance for two days in case you want to come back a second day, which they say is the only park that offers this. A new cafe near the entrance has a variety of nice snacks, like smoothies and hummus. There are also mountain bikes for rent for $25 and 16 km of trails. A nice day. Bug repellent is a must for the forest trail.

awesome hike! not to hard, I recommend going on the lava trail.

Took us about 1h50 to complete, very nice trail, great view of the volcano, but very hot even in the shades, bring a lot of water and it seems higher than what it says (maybe because of the heat). Did it at the end of November, no rain.

We took this hike with Rodiber from Monteverde Lodge & Gardens. We saw an agouti, a coati, so many different species of birds, a wasp nest in a tree and a tarantula hideout. We also saw a quetzal. Rodiber had great scopes and was such a knowledgeable guide. I know we saw far more with him than we would have alone, and also learned the history of the area. The hike itself was easy ... if we had hiked without a guide, we would have made it more of a workout but would have missed learning about this beautiful reserve.

We had a great time. Loved the waterfall. Went in the raining season only went to the waterfall. We will return to do the other part not in raining season! Love Costa Rica!

Poas Volcano. knocked live volcano off bucket list (no liquid hot magma so that is still on there) have to pay ahead of time $15 per person on line.

Well worth the views of the waterfall and where the two rivers join. Surprisingly busy for low season and a weekday. Can imagine that it’s very busy on weekends and in dry season. Keep your eye out for sloths, and interesting insects. A fair amount of steps mid-trail and could be challenging for people with knee issues, but definitely doable.

Great hike on lava flow 1968! Fairly steep climb, but 8 year old daughter managed well with hiking sticks provided. :)

Views into the crater are hit or miss depending on the weather. if conditions are right, the view is spectacular. Even in bad weather, if you hang around the view point for a while, you might get a peekaboo view. When it is misting or rainy the hiking trails are right out of a fantasy novel.

Enjoy the Rio Celeste in your vacations to Costa Rica. Perfect combination of length, difficulty, scenery, beauty, wildlife. It only takes about 35 minutes to reach the waterfall . A 6 on a scale of 1-10 as far as difficulty. Some stairs involved . It is crowded and people love to take themselves selfies. The first part of the hike is a nice stroll on a very well-maintained trail like a concrete path and then leads on to more rugged train. The hike down to the waterfall is well maintained with stairs. Enjoy

Beautiful trail. Enjoyed the hike so much. Saw howler monkeys, various butterflies and a peacock. The top viewpoint makes for an incredible 360° view which includes Arenal volcano. I would also note that the restrooms are continually maintained and very clean.

If your a fit family, it’s an easy trail. Normal trail and very nice. If you are out of shape or touristy this might seem like a challenge but definitely doable. I would call this a proper hike.

Beautiful location, short and easy run. Lovely place, beautiful nature and animals.

Not sure why this is listed as moderate. It’s short and easy but decent. Groomed trails, beautiful location.
