Beautiful hike but would definitely rate it at least medium rather than easy. In between sections of mud and trail are tons of steps and ladders created from logs. The lower and upper Falls are absolutely stunning. Be sure to take the short detour to the base of the lower Falls, it is the prettiest view of the hike.

Not an easy ascent but the view at the end is unlike anything you’ve ever seen. Totally worth it!

Great hiking trail! Some additional information would have been helpful so I’m posting for future hikers! Start of the trail as listed here has no real place to park and very limited signage. When we did see a sign it said it was a biking trail only but we never saw a cyclist. Trail is primarily Sandy so it’s slow walking. It’s marked but you have to pay attention. At the beginning the marking were some ties on trees. In the middle you go to a rocky area (where the lava once flowed) and signage becomes sparse. We finally figured out it was red and white stakes on the ground but they were few and far between. (It did add to the adventure) there were signs to the Falls and we went all the way to a river but never saw the Falls. The hike took 2 hours one way. It was primarily downhill so if we had done the hike back would have been probably 2.5 more hours (btw - on the other end trail was marked as a hiking trail - no bikes allowed Overall a great hike but wished I had more information.

Nice view of the valley. You can get really close to the two glaciers. There were parts of the trail that were not too well kept, where we got quite scratched by the overgrown bushes.

The highlight of the hike was the hidden waterfall slowly revealing itself around the canyon wall as you scramble among the boulders in the river.Otherwise, the river crossing provided for great views despite the navigational challenge it presented. The hike was mostly through a wet forest with boulders here and there that required some scrambling to break up the otherwise boring green jungle tunnel. We combined the Mirador & Ventisquero El Amarillo hikes together into one 18 mile hike because we did not have a AWD car. I thought this hike was enjoyable the entire way as this hike was in the open providing continues views up and down the glacial carved drainage. Along the way, there are rivers, rock faces, meadows of flowers, both alive and dead trees to bring variety to the hike. The final viewpoint at the toe of Michinmahuida Glacier is almost the definition of a hanging glacier in my mind. The views once we were past the bushline of the snow covered Volcán Michinmahuida and the unnamed glacier hanging off it was indeed worthwhile view. So was the look back down the climb we made through the jungle and out toward the ocean down the Río Rayas drainage. The river itself wasn’t so colorful as it was saturated with volcanic ash and silt. The main issue was the 6+ mile hike each way through a rather boring jungle. But if you are looking for solitude, you’ll get your space on the way through the jungle. See our in depth trip report for more details: https://travel2walk.com/2019/12/21/trip-report-patagonia-january-2019-part-8-parque-pumalin-douglas-tompkins/#michinmahuida

Volcán Chaitén was my favorite hike of the 4 we did here in Parque Pumalín and it was by far the most popular here as well. The headliner was the view from the crater both of the inner cone and outwards of Río Rayas draining out to the ocean. The latter is also the view that accompanies you up as you ascend the steep side of the mountain. Lastly, both the recovering jungle vegetation at lower altitudes and burnt out huskes of the vegetation past at higher altitudes both adds their own perspective of the volcano, from the revitalization to the destruction it brings.
