Called the park office Friday and was told there isn’t enough snow to ski, they haven’t groomed yet. Decided to come hiking.... should have brought the skis ! Upper ski trail all groomed with a good base to ski on, just no track set yet.

This is a really beautiful, dog friendly trail, though poorly maintained at this point in the year. It’s a little overgrown and has several downed trees across the path, including a large one that could potentially hinder some hikers from completing the trail. A big perk is what’s found at the end of the trail. Not just a beautiful view of Madge Lake, but a nice rest area including a bbq pit, picnic tables, and outhouse and a shack. Inside the shack, people have taken upon themselves to create a guest book using paper towel.

A nice, short, dog friendly hike. It starts with a walk through the bush with a decently wide trail. When you get to the point on the map that goes past the loop back, there isn’t a trail any more; you’re just freely walking on the sand. They extend for quiet a distance past where the map stops and you can go as far as you like. The path back is actually a gravel road that is used to access a farm. We didn’t see any traffic on this road, but it’s important to stay alert. Signs at either end of the trail indicate there are more trails that continue past the end of this one. I plan to map them for AllTrails in the future.

Nice walk with kids.

The Gem Lakes have beautiful scenery and well maintained trails. There are a few picnic sites if you want to make a fire and roast some weiners. We had a great day!

I walked to Sandy Beach = 13 km in, Grey Owl's Cabin is another 7 km from there. Total trail distance there and back is 40km.

Incredibly well maintained trail; This hike is beautiful and takes you through a number of scenic locations and has a few well equipped campsites (with outhouses) along the way

A decent hike and dogs are allowed on leash. From the main access point it starts with mowed down grass lands. A few paths jet off to signs marking building locations of a historic farm that used to be on this site. Once you get to the water, the trail goes through the bush all the way around the perimeter. The narrow sides of the lake are sort of weird as you come out of the bush and are walking along side a highway. There is also a boardwalk that crosses the “lake” simply for a different vantage point. You can cut the trail short by taking the bridge or walk out, have a look, turn back the way you came and finish the loop.

Loved this trail. From start to finish, the hike was moderate with gorgeous views all through out. There are multiple spots to take breaks at. Sit and enjoy the view, it’s a beautiful trail to hike!

I really enjoyed this trail. We basecamped at the first portage(after arriving at trailhead at 2pm) then dayhiked to the end of trail, and back, the following day. Hiker of the year award goes to the guy at the point who gave us freshly caught and cooked northern pike. Delicious. Watch out rocks slippy when wet. Have a back up plan to staking tents as it's rocky, i.e. tie around rock. Backcountry camping and indeed parking at the trailhead is free!(according to our conversation with parks official). If you like mushrooms this trail is impressive. Wish I knew more. A ton of blueberries in late August. Bugs no prob.

I would recommend this trail to anyone looking for different terrain from our flat prairie hikes. Located in a valley, the trail winds up and down and around the babbling creek. You will see local bird, berries and wild flowers.
