Excellent hike and extremely safe. There was officers the whole way up. Which was nice to see Brazil making an effort for safety. Trail took us just over an hour and we have good footwear and do a lot of hiking. There was a couple places that had a good incline, nothing dangerous though. Was a good hike and I would do it again, bring water.

Incredible! Day one was mostly a hike through thicker woods, gaining elevation in a humid setting. By the end of the day it started to rain and we trudged through mud and rock to get to abrigo açú. Day 2 I call Disneyworld because it was like a theme park of sliding down rocks on your butt, scrambling over rocks, climbing the “elevador” a bunch of rebar steps on the side of a sheer rock face, and mounting the “cavalinho” a fallen rock that I later learned is really on the side of a sheer drop off O___O Day 3 is an easy zigzag stroll down through a tropical forest. Abrigos are warm and cozy, beautiful trail even with clouds and little views. Physically demanding but super fun and rewarding. Loved it!!

Great way to get the Redeemer, I recommend to wear comfortable clothes and bring water or fruits.

A great trail! Do not be afraid of the safety it was fine. The best way to get to Christ the Redeemer, the busses and shuttles looked terrible and crowded. I counted 7.5 miles there and back. It is very hot and humid so bring a lot of water. Saw multiple families of moneys!!!! :)

Well maintained trail. Easy to moderate. Too rainy and foggy when we went to enjoy the viewpoints but beautiful forest still.

I hired a local guide and he obviously knew the trail through and through. I happened to do the hike on a day when it was 95 degrees and a heat index of 106, which, is pretty rough. However, the rain forest before the summit is quite beautiful. It is full of jack fruit trees, monkeys and toucans (heard but not seen) and a lovely assortment of butterflies. Definitely bring lots of cold water and Gatorade type drinks and snacks. It is physically taxing and can get pretty technical with lots of scrambling. The dreaded carresquiera is right before the summit. It is about 30 meters high. For extra safety, I was roped up. Admittedly, it is scary, especially if you look down. After that, there is still more ascent and some scrambling until you finally reach the summit, which has absolutely stunning views of Rio. I repelled down, which was much easier than ascending. A wonderful experience which provides great memories and photos.

Amazing view to the lagoon

This is a great hike and is definetelly a hard hike. The rain and mud added another level of difficulty. I recorded about 6.4 miles round trip.

Beautiful location , but this is not a hike , it is more of a stroll . Kid-friendly but not jogger -friendly . Running is strictly forbidden after 8 or 9 am and they will enforce that.

Dense tropical forest most of the way . There are signs to avoid getting lost , but other than that it feels you’re in wild and uncharted territory - very exciting . This is definitely a hard trail because there is constant climbing - it will take average hikers at least 2 hours to get to the top .

Pas de difficulté majeure, la faune est sympa et le graal est atteint une fois arrivé sur la plage.

Go early for pictures. Good trail and views. Más temprano mejor, mucha gente pasando las 11am. Mais cedo is possible you have to get there, to the top. For pictures and don’t take to wait very much in line.

Great experience. I would rate it as moderate and higher, The trail is all uphill with many steep sections, and a handful of small sections where you will need to get on all four due to steepness. Lots of vegetation, didn't see any animals except ants and birds. Take water, you will need it, no matter how mild the weather might be. Trail is not marked by signs, except at the start of the trail, but it is pretty obvious where you need to go. You need to go the Vidigal fable, at the entrance to the fabela go to the motorcycle trailer stand to hire a moto-taxi to take you to the beginning of the trail, cost was $1.25 US each way. You could walk to the start of the trail, but you will start the trail exhausted. Tell the driver you will pay him double if he drives slowly, highly suggested since they drive like maniacs otherwise. Just tell the driver, "Trillha does irmaos", he will know. I wouldn't go right after a rain, trail would be very slippery.

Did this hike in March 2018 and it was a beautiful hike! We were a little spooked after hearing about the robberies but didn’t have any issues. However, would highly recommend you not bring anything of value just in case and go early!!

Did this trail several years ago when we visited Rio for the Olympics. Sad to hear it’s unsafe these days. It was a fun one with a couple really steep areas!

Great hike. Very clean and no problems. I went from the top down and enjoyed it very much. Even ran into a family of monkeys.

Best hike I’ve ever been on. Did the hike with a guide and we went the other unique trail up. This trail wasn’t as marked, but it was a fun experience all the way up, including when we had to actually climb up with a harness. The view at the top was unbelievable in the end. If I lived in Rio, I’d hike this all the time!

I love this trail, and hike it every time I'm in Rio. It traverses so many different types of scenery, and it incredible rewardong after the difficult scramble/climb near the top. If you don't speak portuguese or don't know Rio very well, I reccomend a guide. There have been rumors of thieves on the trail. That being said, I'e only had wonderful experiences.

I have done this trail three times in the past 3 years. While it is a great hike, it is also notoriously dangerous. bandits routinely assault trailers. tourists especially are easy targets as they often are disillusioned/unaware of RJ's violence. ask any Carioca and they will tell you the same thing. If you choose still to do this trail, I highly recommend you go early (robbers are not known for being early birds) and on a day of low traffic. perhaps a week day. do not bring items of high worth, bring some back up money hidden in a shoe just in case. For those risk takers out there, enjoy and stay safe!

Awesome hike! We went with a group and had tools for some parts of the trail (specially carrasqueira, I’m happy we had those but some people just go without anything, up to you!) it’s def worth it! Amazing views. O Rio de Janeiro continua lindo ♥️

Great trail not super steep and absolutely worth it, there are also boat options for those who don’t want to hike. Be careful after intensive rain as it might be slippery.

Beautiful trail through the rainforest with a couple of beach stops on the way. The trail is well marked and can be easily done alone. Residue from the rain the night before meant some of the trail was muddy and slippery especially walking downhill at times. There were some dogs along the way to lead you :) The beautiful Lopes Mendes beach is a wonderful reward for the long walk (though nice to also take a break at the two other beaches before). You can buy drinks and snacks at the beaches. Lopes Mendes has very limited resources (just drinks and snacks) so worth bringing food with you and enough money to get a taxi boat backs

amazing! best with a tour guide.

Usually cariocas don’t like this trail because there’s no (nice) view.

This trail is extremely dangerous right now. Lots of robberies. I would suggest you to avoid it.
