Chirripó National Park expands across 124,000 acres in the provinces of Limón, San José and Cartago Costa Rica. Each location in the park is unique and there are guaranteed stunning views along swamps, glacier lakes, grasslands, and fern groves. Named after the tallest mountain in the country, Cerro Chirripó, the park offers some of the best hiking trails with the opportunities to stay overnight. There are trails in varying difficulty which pass through a variety of ecosystems. Hikers should expect to see wildlife, such as jaguars, pumas, and monkeys. Birdwatching is a popular activity at the park as well. If you plan to stay overnight, note that you must have a hiking guide and a permit. Cahuita National Park holds the best preserved reef in the Caribbean on the backdrop of white sand beaches and a pristine turquoise sea. Located in the province of Limon, the beach is one of the least undeveloped ones in Costa Rica. There is approximately 22,300 ha of protection for the marine area. In this unique park, visitors will see sea turtles, sea cucumbers, manta rays, and a variety of sharks and sea urchins. On land, there are raccoons, sloths, and iguanas.
