It was quite windy in January and the surface is badly eroded. We saw two species of monkeys, capuchin and spider. Swimming is now prohibited by the falls but many ignored that. There is a hot spring that joins the swimming hole. Since the park closes at 4pm you must start before noon. A little over an hours drive from Playa Hermosa.

We visited the reserve by ourselves, did not saw any wildlife. It is less crowded than monteverde park hopefully. We did the 1h30 and 25 minutes hike (from which you can see the Arenal).

Great hike through the rainforest

Well worth the hike to the mud bath and hot springs

The “trail” is concrete steps down to the waterfall. Cost us $6 (USD) per person. The area is pretty enough, but even when we went on a Monday it was packed. There’s a lifeguard who doesn’t allow people to swim too close to the falls. Very pretty, but we only ended up spending about an hour there.

awesome! go first thing to have the waterfall/blue lagoon to yourself (or mostly) :) took me about 1.5 hours to get there with plenty of quick stops to check for monkies.

Awesome trail with side trails leading to two waterfalls and 'cold water pots' where volcanic gasses are bubbling out of shallow pools of water. The hot springs themselves are warm and pleasant, but do smell a bit like eggs because of their sulfur content. We saw lots of wildlife on the trail including a large troop of white-headed capuchins.

FYI closed on Monday. We tried to hike and were threatened by the local “security guard” as he insisted we pay him $15 per person. Total shakedown.

Easy stroll down a well-maintained trail with gradual stair steps. Nice picturesque waterfall that is popular with locals for picnics and swimming. You can swim behind the falls, and even scramble to the top (although it's pretty slippery and dangerous--so be careful if you're feeling daring)!

Good hike through different vegetation to a gorgeous blue waterfall begging you to jump in. Bring the swim suits!
