This is a spectacular view of Nanjing. Currently the wall on top is closed heading to Purple Mountain but there is an exit down near the closure. Worth the walk. Look up the history of Nanjing 1937-1938 before head out. It will put some perspective on the walls importance.

Pleasant walk with good city views. The walkway on top of the wall is wide and paved with large stone bricks. There is a 54 RMB entrance fee and it is well kept and there are restrooms along the way. Views towards the inside of the old city include some classic buildings and small lanes. Views on the outside of the wall are of a pleasant park and moat that runs around most of the wall. That park is free and mince with flowering plants and trees (we visited in April)

We did this trip in July of 2009. It was amazing, however very hot, humid. Bring plenty of water, and enjoy the history.

One of my favorite areas in Shanghai!

Went on a camping trip with Beijing hikers. Highly recommend as the whole trip was excellent start to finish.

An easy walk alongside water and greenery. Public transportation (buses) are available along the perimeter of the lake (not on causeways) if you don't want to walk the entire loop. Some portions of the walkway are narrow and crowded. Kite flying and tai chi are popular in the more spacious areas.

Fun city walk. Lots of shops, food, and people. Not a quiet garden.

Magnifique!

For a hike in the city more or less it was fantastic. It was snowing the whole time I was there so there were very few people and we felt like it was a different place all together because of that. Very easy hike but nice to get out of the throng.

BEST TRAIL EVER!!!!!!

The Great Wall workout.

Interesting historic church on the hill and certainly worth a look. A relatively easy hike to the top but very crowded on the weekends. Views over Songjiang district are hampered by pollution. Visit the Observatory on the hill...gives an insight into how the Chinese contributed to astromomy and the information is in English. Well worth a visit

I was visiting Beijing for work, and decided to take some friends to visit the Great Wall. Badaling is almost always filled with tourists, so we went to Mutianyu. Our visit was timed for the finish of three days of solid rain. The sky was incredibly clear, impossibly clear for those who are familiar with the typical pollution levels in north China. We went early in the morning, so there were very few people. We had an outstanding hike along the wall, and I must confess, the steep stairs utterly tortured my legs. I am standing in the airport as I write this review, and days later, my thighs and calves are still stiff. This is a great place to visit, if you are in north China, and a great place for a hike in China. I have hiked Mutianyu a few times over the years, and it never gets boring.

If you visit Beijing, this is a must-see area of this historic city. Both the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square are VAST! Prepare for some walking! I clocked eight miles walked today. It was a rainy day, and those are the perfect kind of days to visit the heart of China. The crowds are gone, and the beauty is yours to behold!

Great views. Tough to take photos with all the people who frequent the site.

This is a good way to immerse yourself in all that is Shanghai. Beware of pickpockets and new "friends". This is trinket central, so be prepared to shop around for lots of stuff you probably don't need. You get get as much or little walking as you care to enjoy.

Sheshan Forest Park is a nice place for a quick escape from the city. The trail / path is paved. There are stairs in many places. Expect an invigorating walk up the hill and back. It can get a bit crowded on weekends, but relative to the rest of Shanghai, it is peaceful on the busiest of days. There are some forests, flowers, relatively fresh air, nice views, and a historical church at the top of the hill.

If you get the chance to hike the Great Wall (especially on a rare blue-sky day), you do it. 10/10 amazing.
