A trip from Beijing to the most popular section of the Great Wall! Badaling National Forest Park is one of China's first ecological welfare forests certified by the FSC. Make sure to go during the autumn as visitors will be enchanted by the sights of the mountains and trees containing red leaves. Built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and first opened to tourists in 1957, the Great Wall at Badaling is the most popular tourist section of this landmark. Located reasonably close to Beijing and was recently restored, the Great Wall at Badaling sees thousands of visitors a day! More than 150 million people have visited Badaling since its restoration. Note: It takes around an hour on the bus to get there, so you can reasonably do this tour in half a day (depending on where in Beijing you start from and how long you plan to spend at the Wall).Show more

Known as Phoenix Mountain, Fenghuangling Nature Park features stunning views, rugged peaks, lush forests, and tranquil springs. This park is popular for Shennu Peak, Lion Hill, and its deformed rocks. These rocks are an absolute must see at this park, see if you can make out the stone monkey or the privately chatting couple. Interested in history? Fenghuangling is full of ancient relics, cultural sites, and religious ruins. Visitors will also be able to see the remnants of health care from ancient China here. This park is divided into three sections: north, south, and central. The north route is primarily of scenic sites, temples, caves, and springs. Grab a drink at Shenquan Pond for refreshing spring water! The south route has the religious sites, check out the pagoda and Huangpu Courtyard! The central route contains Longquan Monastery (a must see), people come far and wide to become a monk at this temple and it's not easy. Other attractions include: Immortal's Cave, Immortal's Chair, Baita Reservoir and more!Show more

Beijing, China

Great Wall Mutianyu is one of many sections of the Great Wall of China. This section is one of the best preserved and is the longest fully restored section of the whole wall. Due to its near proximity to Beijing, visitors come far and wide to visit this historic site. Additionally, Mutianyu connects to Lianhuachi and Jiankou, which is said to have the best views. Great Wall Mutianyu was built during the Northern Qi Dynasty and was rebuilt by General Xu to strengthen its ability. The Mutianyu section of the Great Wall was also used as a barrier to defend the imperial tombs and the capital. Keep count of how many watch towers you will see in this section. (There should be 23!) Visitors can opt to hike the wall or they can take cable cars. (Note that cable cars will require an additional fee.) The wall also has no shade at all! Be prepared for different temperatures, it gets really hot during the summer and there is snow in the winter.Show more
