NOTE: this trip of approximately 13 days and crosses the border between Chile and Argentina. The landscapes along the entire route are unforgettable, although the Patagonian climate is quite changeable and the trip can be complicated by rain, hail and wind. Some parts of the road are in poor condition, especially the dirt roads (approximately 1000 km are dirt and only 300 km are paved).Show more

The Sargazo Lagoon is considered one of the must-see treks for hikers within the Alerce Andino National Park. To access the path that leads to it, it is necessary to enter the park from the sector that receives its name: Sargazo Sector, about 46 kilometers from the city of Puerto Montt. It can be visited by taking two trails: the first, forks to the right about 800 meters coming from the entrance of the Park and passes through the Lenca river, has a vehicular road until approx. half way of and then leads to a path that leads directly to the lagoon, between a thick forest. The other, continuing to the left at the fork, leads to the Lagoon not before passing through several of the ancient larches to carefully appreciate these amazing old trees. For a complete experience, why not visit it from both points? That way, you will not miss any corner of the incredible views and the colors reflected in its waters. Keep in mind that in winter the trails are closed for maintenance.Show more

Length: 10.0 mi • Est. 5 h 1 m
A visit to these two beautiful lagoons inside the Alerce Andino National Park, whose views between larch forests and mountains will take your breath away. The trail from the entrance of the Park is well signposted and maintained, it even has wooden decks that makes transit in areas of mud and rocks easier. It is not a very difficult hike and you can find fauna such as pudú (a kind of deer from the Andean forests), puma, little monkey, condor, black woodpecker, among others. Keep in mind that although the park is open all year round, in winter time the trail is enabled only to the Chaiquenes lagoon.Show more

Length: 5.7 mi • Est. 2 h 18 m
Nice hike through a trail surrounded by beautiful virgin alerce (larch) forests, with occasional views of the Hornopirén volcano. It starts when the vehicle cannot go further (four-wheel drive trucks with very high clearance can go further). It is a gentle slope, there and back. The lake itself is icy blue with nice views of rugged peaks and glaciers.Show more
