Not for Dogs!!

Great hike last weekend. Well marked, Amazing views. We hiked From Boundary Road to Brock Road at Hope Bay.

We took our dog Hughey and after 16 K of hiking through snow that was firm in the morning but a bit “sandy” by noon and soft by afternoon, we were surprised that we had to negotiate a ladder to get off the escarpment. We tried to coax Hughey down the cliff at a point that he would have navigated easily if it wasn’t for the snow, he’s smarter than us and steadfastly refused. In the end, cold and a bit achy, we realized we were not going to get him down and ended up backtracking a few hundred meters south and heading West for about 1Km (X country) until we hit a snowmobile track which we followed West to a fork. We followed the Northerly running track which eventually ran into the cottage community SW of Hope Bay Marina (Brock road.and Hope Bay Road)

We called “Grab A Cab” who drove out from Wiarton. The driver was friendly and a sight for sore eyes, I’d recommend this for a winter hike but in snowless conditions we would have walked back to the car on Boundary along the direct Southerly route marked on the “All Trails” map.

It was a great day out but we were surprised by the ladder.

The entire north Bruce has a special place in my heart. It’s taken more years than planned but I’ve legged it from Colpoys bay right to the Cairn in Tobermory.

This was all completed in sections of course but so many great sights along the way. High Dump, Jones Bluff, Cape C, Storm Heaven, Lion Head, Halfway Log Dump and many others make it a must.
Cypress Lake and the Grotto are just a zoo now but after Labor Day it calms down.

Happy hiking everyone.

A demanding and challenging trail and worth the effort for the beautiful views of Georgian Bay. Bring bug spray and lots of water.
