Four of us attempted counter clockwise last week of Sept. Got to Heaven Lake ~10 miles in but one of our party partially separated an achilles. We backed him out out slowly. I think the moderate rating is misleading. Parts are definitely difficult. Moderate is kind of an average. From the Crack through Hansen is constant up and down on a lot of irregular surface. If the quartzite gets wet it's slippery.
That said, what a beautiful place. We all intend to go back.

I finished this trail yesterday in 4 days/3nights with three friends and myself. This was our first time on the trail and despite finishing on time, we were a bit ambitious with our pace and had 4 long days of hiking. The scenery was very rewarding. I’ll definitely be doing the loop again, although will be adding one or two nights and including the hike up to silver peak. “The Crack,” which is located about 5 hours from the trailhead travelling counterclockwise, was not very enjoyable as we were inundated with a tour bus of day hikers who were not very trail savvy. The next time I do this loop I’ll be travelling counterclockwise and aiming to pass through the crack earlier in the day on a weekday. Otherwise, great trail overall. However, I would certainly rate this trail as difficult and not moderate.

Stunning and amazing trail. combined rocks, water and beautiful flore.
not extremely hard but can't be accessible for everyone because of the last part (you will need the help of your hands to reach the top, but if you are fit enought to reach this point you can finish it) the effort is SO worth it!!

Just finished 7 nights on the trail. Arrived back at George Lake yesterday. Trail was both challenging and rewarding. Beautiful scenery and weather was very agreeable. Think I would be more inclined to rate the trail as difficult. Maybe I’m just out of shape...lol. Am definitely looking forward to going again!!

Beautiful scenery throughout the entire trail. Difficult rock scrambles in parts but overall a moderate trail.

Spent 9 days on the trails with my wife and had an awesome time. There was SO much to see. Every stop and every camp site offered a wonderful memory. Looking forward to making the trip with my son next.

Definitely a great hike! Worth the trek for the view! - Speaking from an inexperienced hiker, this trail was manageable. A moderate-hard hike depending on your fitness level.

My absolute favorite hike in Ontario (so far). First 2.5km were a breeze - fairly flat and wide, easy to follow and peaceful. The next bit was tougher - you are climbing some big rocky/root-filled hills (starting to hit some amazing views) until the 3.5km (or so mark) - a final accession up the crack. I had to put my camera away to scamper up the steep steep rocks. Spectacular views at the top. Stopped for lunch there. It was pretty busy (we encountered 15 or more small groups or pairs of hikers in the 3.5 hours we were there) even though we went on a Tuesday morning. I loved this hike. Gorgeous in the fall. Would love to do the whole La Cloche Sillouhette Loop next!

Depending on your fitness level and hiking experience I would rate this hike as a mod-hard trail. Absolutely worth the climb for the view. The beginning walkthrough is nice and easy then the climbing begins. A few small climbs and descents until the main climb through the crack up to the viewpoint.

Amazing hike, much preffered over Silver Peak even!

Fun and challenging hike. Great views.

Tricky track. Pristine. Filter water well. I had stomach issues both times I did this trail.

I hiked this trail with my dog in May. We started the trail around 2pm. It took us about 3.5 hours in total with stops along the way. The trail wasn't too overcrowded since it was a week before the May long weekend.
It's a beautiful trail, and the view at the top definitely makes the climb worth it! It can be tough climbing some of the larger rocks along the route, and it isn't always clear where the trail is. There are lots of places to stop and take in the views along the route. Would definitely recommend this trail!

Amazing views! Make sure to wear good tread hiking shoes/boots. Rocks can be slippery to climb on when wet.

Although at times challenging, this trail is unique and offers unbelievable viewpoints! Would definitely recommend :)

Great trail - enough of a challenge and beautiful views!

This was my first backpacking trip ever lol. Completed this trail in 7 days/6 nights with my dog. Last week of July. Managed a trip up to silver peak too! Absolutely loved it! I underestimated the difficulty though. If your dog isn’t trail hardened, which mine wasn’t, bring boots and paw moisturizer. The rocks are sharp and will shred the paws without them.

Great trail. Nice views

Fairly active path, met lots of people, is quite the climb but it super worth it. Extremely unique and a little challenging.

Hiked this trail August 5, 2018. Started out early, around 8:30 am and met several people coming back on the way up. The first 2 km are a walk in the park but it then it gets more challenging as you get into more up hill hiking over lots of tree roots. From here it moves into scrambling over rocks up to the top of a hill (just a warm up to the Crack). You then have a decent and back into an uphill hike over tree roots before getting to the Crack. The Crack is a steep uphill scramble over more rocks but there is always a place to get a good foothold. It took about 2 hours in total to get to the top.
The view at the top is awesome but it started to get crowded around 11 am making it difficult to get good shots with foreground interest that didn’t have people in it.
Started back around noon and were back at the car around 1:30. The last kilometre was difficult even though it was easy trail. (Probably due to the heat and humidity).
The trail is well marked but you need to look up to see the markers. We were glad we took 3 1/2 litres of water. We drank 3 litres.
It would be a great trail in the fall or a great place to catch an awesome sunrise or sunset for those with experience.
We would rate the trail difficult.

Nice hike, nice views. Definitely doesn’t deserve the hard rating however.

It’s a weekly staple hike during July and August for us. Great way to kick start a work out and maintain your fitness level!

Challenging hike overall - lots of rocks to climb over and through with steep ascension close to the lookout. Absolutely amazing view at the top and worth the challenge. Saw families and dogs on the trail. You’ll need a partner to help your dog over the toughest points to avoid injury. Going down is tricky so make sure you take your time. A bucket list hike for any nature lover!

Challenging and rewarding. We did the hike with our two kids in backpacks. (3 years and 15 months). It was challenging at times but doable for sure. Saw lots of families and groups on the way there and back. Would recommend having one adult per child of hiking with kids. Going down was far more difficult than getting up. Views are paramount. Really great hike.

There is not a more beautiful hike in Ontario, in my opinion. It is for more experienced hikers and would absolutely rate this one has hard, as opposed to moderate considering some of the elevations and hiking requisite knowledge required. Trip preparation and proper gear is essential, but absolutely worth it!

I would not rate this trail as “moderate” and Lake of The Woods as “hard.” This trail’s elevations reserve it for more serious hikers. You can bring older children that are accustom to hiking with proper footwear. The views are remarkable and the traffic is light.
