the deer flies chased us off the trail! there were swarms of them!

The trail was almost totally flooded. There were a few patches that weren't but were still very wet. Several areas had fallen trees and you had to go way off trail to get around them. I had to abandon the trail early as it wasn't very easy to navigate with all the flooding and down trees. Would not recommend this trail until early summer/fall.

Waaaay too icy! Definitely would be a lovely walk in spring with the broad leaves in bud. But some nice trees, a river view and quiet solitude! A nice little piece of exercise and fresh air! Watch out for dog poop! Lol. ;)

there are a few entrances and parking areas. currently there is a heavy skim of ice and melt over all the established tracks. unlike any of the other Simcoe county forests I've visited, this one has a throughway drive in it. this single track road is wide enough for a pickup to drive through it. there are multiple well grooved mountain bike trails cross-crossing through both sections of this forest. there is a small section on the south east side of a road, and a larger section on the south west side. it was reasonably common to hear traffic as the cross roads is fairly busy. we did see one other person walking their dog, but it was otherwise ours alone. this is old growth, and it's possible the roadway is to facilitate active logging in the forest.

Well marked and easy to walk.
