Please note: No Camping, no fires and no motorized vehicles are allowed on trails. The Orono Crown Lands occupy 633 acres of the former Ontario Tree Nursery. This nature area features seven well marked and maintained trails that total 13 km (8 miles). The trails meander through a varied habitat of mature evergreen and deciduous hardwood forests. Wilmot Creek, one of Ontario‚ the best cold-water creeks, runs through the property. A spawning run of rainbow trout occurs in mid-April with a salmon run in late August. The Crown lands are accessed via parking lots on Oconski Rd., Taunton Rd. and Concession Rd. 5. All trails are moderate to easy walking with benches and a large picnic area west of the Ochonski Rd. entrance. The Blue Loop and the Linton Red Trail are the easiest walks, bicycle rides or ski trips. Their paths are wider, straighter and more level than the others. The Green Trail and the Orange and Red Loop have scenic sections along Wilmot Creek that are more twisting and uneven. They can be muddy in wet weather but are beautiful all year round. Activities include, walking, hiking, bicycle and horseback riding, dog walking, as well as cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. No motorized vehicles are allowed and dogs must be leashed. Bug spray is recommended, as this trail system can be buggy at certain times of the year.Show more
