A steep hike but well worth it!

The entrance to the trail is a bit hard to find. Drive up the gravel road and look for the orange ribbons tied around a post. The entrance is a bit past where the GPS will direct you to. Head down the trail through the forest. It can be a bit slippery if it has rained. There is a rope to hold onto for the last part of the trail where it is steepest. Once you get to the bottom you will be rewarded with a spectacular sight. One of the most beautiful waterfalls! I have visited a lot of waterfalls in my life and this one is right up there! It'll be a tiring hike back up the hill but to see this waterfall is so worth it!!!

To reach the falls, you must descend a steep hill, some of which requires holding onto a rope. It is well worth the trouble, but is not recommended for anyone that would have difficulty descending or ascending a long, steep hill.

Beautiful waterfalls! The last part of the descent to the falls is quite narrow overlooking a steep drop and involves holding onto a fixed rope, which might not be suitable for everyone.

I agree with Shauna...it’s a steep descent to the falls, and then a steep climb back up, so if a person has knee problems the trail is certainly not “easy”. However, the falls are beautiful, well worth a visit!

a great hike. fun for kids. nice spot for a swim at the first fall

I would rate this moderate because the walk back is very steep, not necessarily easy for all ages. Other than that, one of my favourite hikes in Cape Breton, I've been multiple times.

Beautiful waterfalls
Very steep getting down and up from the falls
Thanks to whoever put rope there
Trail is decent lots of deadfall in the path

Short but steep. Falls are worth it though.

Take a left when u ascend. This section of the trail is gravel and dirt with benches along the way and a number of excellent look out points. The last two look outs have the best view of Chéticamp village and the Island. U can choose to go back down the same way or do the loop. If u do the loop, be mindful the conditions of the interior trail is rocky and many sections also muddy because it runs along a brook. U will see a number of small waterfalls. We saw a large black bear on our way up. He was on the trail and we observed him from a distance and waited for him to move out before continued.

Trail was a lot harder as you have to walk a lot along big wet rocks. Waterfall was beautiful

Gorgeous! Challenging to get up the mountain, but definitely worth the hike!

Fantastic views !Nice moderate trail. We did it in about 3 hours with numerous stops for views. the last half actually may have been the nicest, following the creek all the way back with a gradual descent. Trail actually shows as 8.4 kms.

Awesome hike

First time himing this trail and I had a blast. Good views at each point. Bit of a incline slop starting off but once you make ot past that its easy from there. Will be heading back soon.

Great hike. We did the main trail all the way to the cabin and then did the western loop. It was quite wet in spots but was a great day to be outside enjoying the weather.

Very picturesque view

Good spot for a quick hike and beautiful waterfall

Some newly felled trees across trail on West side of Ash Lake, otherwise in great shape this spring.

Personally, we loved the variety of this trail.

Beautiful falls... nice wading pool in the middle tier of the falls.

Beautiful water fall, the GPS shows in all took me to wrong place. I used my google map.Should watch carefully for the narrow path to the water fall from the mud road( its right in the turning) high chance to miss it as there is no sign for trail

Ok... for me a great trail consists of food, fun and fabulous views (or a waterfall). This trail has all three. At the base of the trail is Sugar Moon Farm. A log hut with roaring fire places, great coffee and very good maple butter covered pancakes. Then the hike, probably the best marked trail in Nova Scotia. Not too many markers and not too few. Lot's of uphill challenges (fun) and wonderful water features, especially Jane's Falls. This is a beautiful lace like fall in a grove that is likely 40 feet high. Man, it doesn't get much better. If your going this winter (i hope to) check for open hours at Sugar Moon.

trail is well marked, lots of plaques with history on the area

Great views, and a thrilling ascent. I wish I was back there.

Pretty steep decent to the falls but definitely worth it! Beautiful view, great for pictures. You definitely feel the climb back to the car haha

Nice in the fall. Ash Lake is quiet and lovely. It's really good to record and compare with the map as the trails can be a little faint at times. There are tapes and paint at tricky spots though plus some signs. I didn't go the Hobson's Lake route but picked a different way in and back.

A nice loop. We did it clockwise to get the steep ascents and descents out of the way whilst our legs were still fresh.
Extremely well marked with a couple of great rest spots with a bench to admire the views.
Informative signs along the trail make for a more interesting hike and providing you time your hike properly the Sugar Moon Shack cafe/restaurant awaits you with a welcome respite at the end.

Lovely day out. Well marked with a nice place to have a picnic at the half way mark. Dogs had a great time
