Wonderful trail that certainly provides a bit of a challenge. Be prepared for lots of climbing and bring some water!

Had the trail all to ourselves at 7:00am on the Monday of August long weekend. Great trail, mostly crushed rock and some boardwalk. No roots or rocks to stumble over. First 70% of the trail is lots of the same dense fauna undergrowth. Beautiful views at the end of the trail of picturesque cliffs and winding hills.

Hiking

Salmon River hike in Cheticamp. Trail only goes in 4kms now and not the 6 in and back as mentioned although I did cross the closed portion to finish the last 2kms of the trail. First 4K was easy and the final 2K was difficult with the erosion of the trails and bridge that was out but I did manage to get to the third salmon pool. I would not recommend crossing the closed portion unless you are with someone and do not mind climbing boulders.

Amazing loop, shaded on the way up.. amazing views on the way down. I recommend going up on the right side and looping back to get the views.

Great trail with a lot of elevation changes and views. Did it clockwise and saw the most beautiful view of Cheticamp and the ocean from the top of the mountain. Coming back you hike along a heavily shaded river.

Beautiful trail along the ocean with spectacular views. Took the right side of the trail to the stairway and saw a moose right beside us.... absolutely amazing!! Made my whole trip! Well worth the hike

Nice moderate hike going up early in a narrow path. You will find a red chair on top and a rocky area for a rest. The hike down is a wider service type road with a lot of loose rocks and gravel. Good to have hiking boots for that last part. Overall, a nice enjoyable loop.

Falls are at the start of the hike, no sign saying « Aspy » so good to know you need to start at the parking lot for the falls. The hike starts in a wide service type road for a few km, pretty flat. Starts later to go up with slight incline. Most of it is easy, more narrow around the end where you find a red chair. Enjoyed the hike, very relaxing with a nice fun part: visit the falls only at the end, with your tired feet in the water and a nice cold beer or drink! An awesome time!

Great trail with two very different forests/fauna that you’ll encounter. Definitely recommend clockwise! I have hiked this trail two other times, both times completing it counter-clockwise, and now that I’ve done it clockwise, I can’t imagine why we ever did it the other way! The way up, there are a few steepish hills, but nothing too challenging for someone with average to good cardio fitness (hills aren’t my forte!). Also on the way up, you will encounter SO much moose scat and a few spots of bear scat. I actually did this hike alone this time, and I admit, I was a little nervous. There are many berry patches and open bushy areas on the ascent, that I imagine would be pure heaven for bears. But I didn’t see any think more animated than a squirrel with a leaf in his mouth, peering at me in fascination, from behind a tree trunk. It could be I was the only person he saw, as there was NO ONE else on the trail with me the entire time. It was eerily quiet- other than my loud singing and yogi bear calls, to ward off furry company. The view was uninspiring, ONLY because it was foggy - not the trail’s fault - my bad for picking a foggy day. Other times that I have done this trail, the views are out of this world - so I do recommend going on a cool, clear day, if you are looking for the best vistas. The entire way down, you will feel as if you are stepping through a rain forest but without the humidity, and the stream at your side is so zen-like. Something out of a movie, truly. It looks so different than the trail on the way up - much greener and more lush - like completely different trails that have been merged. A few bridge planks are a bit slippery, so watch your footing, and there’s only one muddy area to traverse. So very easy in that sense. Great hike, overall! But I highly recommend having a hiking buddy for this one, just for safety sake. Also cell phone service is there almost all the time, but there are a few quick spots where you’ll have no service. Walk a few steps and it will return. Just be aware.

Easy trail that leads to the beach. Not too busy, but people around. Bathroom facilities next to the parking lot.

Great trail, went on a super rainy day so we didn’t get to see the classic view but was a great walk for the afternoon

Absolutely beautiful - including all the lookouts, my Fitbit actually calculated around 11 kms; however, the entire hike only took us about 2.5 hours. Very few breaks - just to catch our breath and keep going! I second the reviews that say to do this in clockwise motion, as you’ll appreciate the shade of the latter half. :)

Trail was in perfect condition. It is an easy loop or shorter in and out. Well groomed with some well maintained boardwalks. Highly recommended.

Have done this trail multiple times. Usually take the trail to the top but end up taking the service road down. Incredible views of Ingonish beach, Maidenhead and Smokey Mountain.
