The most popular trail in the park, takes you along the inner reaches of Newman Sound. View shorebirds, tidal mud flats and Pissamare Falls near Headquarters Wharf. From the Visitor Centre to the Outdoor Theatre is approximately 4.7km.

From the Visitor Centre, head across the bridge over Salton’s Brook and meander along the coast of inner Newman Sound. The coastal view will weave in and out of sight. Some areas are open to the coast as a result of pockets of blow downs from recent hurricane winds. Follow the trail down to a small sandy beach and take in the view looking up and down the sound. About halfway the trail breaks out to a road and parking lot – Headquarters Wharf. Once you pick up the trail again there is a small path off to the right that leads to a small waterfall – Pissamare Falls. Back on the trail again, stroll to through the forest to Sandy Point, formed by the deposition of sediment along the coast, here you will see remnants of past human use in this area. Then wind your way into Newman Sound Day Use Area and Campground – the heart of Terra Nova National Park. This trail is easy with some moderate climbs.
