We parked in the cemetery parking lot (free parking on weekdays!), which was close to the suspension bridge. We had a nice lunch on the trail. The trail was beautiful and shaded in some areas. Definitely a great trail to try!

Great trail for exercise. We stopped at the dock at the lake for a short picnic. Lots of beautiful wild flowers to see.

Discovered this place with a friend a couple days ago....an absolute gem! Great trails and can’t wait to go back and run through them. Only downfall was the mosquitos....will remember to bring bug spray next time I go.

Had a great family bike ride down this trail , was able to use our bike trailer with our toddler on this trail while biking. Has a few steep areas but lovely views through the forest. Start at the marsh trail beside the Falcon marina .

Beautiful trail. A bit hot but saw almost no one. Poses a slight challenge but still a nice walk. Love the spots to stop near the water and the walk through the forest. Definitely one of my favourites.

really fun! some areas were narrow which made it difficult to maintain social distancing with others walking along the trail (for those who might be concerned). bugs weren’t very bad at all, i had bug spray of course (i usually get bitten anyways), but truly they weren’t very bad at all. plenty of shade on the trail, off the trail on the rocks along the lake there’s plenty of places to sit. also a lot of cute wild life (frogs, snails, chipmunks). good stuff :)

A great hike with well-groomed pathway. You won't get that "secluded" feeling as there are a lot of people on the path, river, lake, and campground. My kids loved all the ripe raspberries to pick and eat along the path and tons of rocks to throw once you're at the rapids. We even walked along the lakeshore a ways seeking other adventures. Dorothy Lake public beach is nearby and even has a playground to make this a great day trip... I don't know why the description on All Trails says it's near Pinawa, because it isn't (45min) and there is a different suspension bridge near there.

Wide open trail. It is flat, and fairly straight. It was not a problem with kids, and I would recommend it to anyone who would rather chat with friends than concentrate on where you place your next step.

Great!

Aug 1st, 2020, we parked at the bridge ($20 parking fee) and walked an 11.2 km trail that looped the city. Trail conditions were excellent, the first 3km were fun with nice overlooks etc. There were two other sections of the trail where we had to walk on the highway. Also, there is a beach about half way of you'd like to take a dip. This is an easy trial, not sure why it's rated moderate. Dog-friendly, on-leash.

Did this trail right after a rainstorm and there were only a few muddy parts but nothing you can't get around. Grass is a bit overgrown in spots but there is enough foot traffic that it isn't an issue. Good views of the lake with beach access.

Hiking

On July 27, 2020, I tried to complete the Windsor Nordic Center Loop (in Winnipeg, MB) but quickly realized something wasn’t quite right with this trail - the trail map as shown in AllTrails directed us right through the Niakwa Golf course - right through the fairways of ACTIVE GOLF games being played. Beautiful golf course for sure. NO TRAIL was visible (no beaten path or marked trail). A greens keeper approached us and very politely advised us that we really shouldn’t be walking around the golf course. We quietly chuckled to ourselves and left the grounds. It would appear that this trail should only be used in the winter time, and on cross-country skis or the like. I would suggest that hikers be advised to only try this hike in the WINTER (when golf is not being played there).

Nice trail, bathroom n warming hut at the halfway mark across from the lime kiln info sign. There were two other trails that were at the halfway mark too. Some rocks in ground n horse manure but a nice walk. Mowed recently so shorter grass.

Hiking

I hiked to Sturgeon Falls on the afternoon of July 25, 2020. The trail began from the Nutimik Lake campground, along the gravel road leading to the beach. It just under 4 km round trip hike to Sturgeon Falls. It took me 45 minutes for the hike, not including a stop at Sturgeon Falls. The trail had some ups and downs and followed through forest along a gravel path. The foot bridge was about 500 metres into the hike and it was beautiful! There were amazing views of the Whiteshell River from the bridge. It made for really great photos too. After crossing the bridge, follow the trail to the left (the sign points to Sturgeon Falls). This section of trail travels through peaceful forest and ends at the falls (they were more like rapids and a bit underwhelming, but still nice). There were large rocks for sitting on and enjoying the views. It was fun to watch people attempting to surf and water ski in the rapids and the views were pretty. The trail follows back along the same path. There were hardly any mosquitoes during midday when it was sunny and no flies. It was a very pleasant walk, aside from the intense humidity and heat. Would come back again! I would rate this trail as easy, not moderate, as AllTrails says. It’s mostly flat with some minor ups and downs. My FitBit recorded 116 metres of elevation gain.

This was our second time doing this trail. The first, last year, we began from the suspension bridge end, so this time we began from the parking lot by the golf course. The lot was surprisingly full for a Wednesday morning, but this is also the put in spot for Pinawa River tubing and the weather was very nice - note that while we did not have to pay for parking, talks were underway to begin charging $20 per vehicle on weekends as early as July 24, 2020. There are a couple of nice spots to stop for a snack or meal break along the trail - the first is a rocky overlook at the east end, the second is a scenic marsh area with many frogs near the west end. Mosquitos were out in full force but easily manageable with appropriate long sleeved/legged clothing and some bug spray. Note that while this is a dog-friendly trail, all pets must be kept on-leash; we ran into two sets of owners who had let their dogs wander ahead of them on the trail off-leash.

Signage could be clearer... the trail used to be very well marked for summer hikers but is now quite confusing for those visiting for the first time. There are several trails that run into one another that make the journey questionable at times. Otherwise the scenery is beautiful along the well groomed sand trail, just prepare for a herd of mosquitos that will trail you.
