great kid-friendly family trail

Great little trail system that goes all along the water with little scenic off-shoots. Lots of places to swim (at least in 2018 when the water was low) so bring your suit on a hot day. With the number of different trails you could make this as short or as long as you like.

There are also some neat points of interest, in particular the spirit trees. However, an environmental suggestion: please don’t leave your man-made junk at the foot of the spirit tree as an offering. If you feel compelled to leave something rather than leave the trail as you found it then please make it something that is a timeless offering that fits the spirit of the trail - a rock you painted; a note you etched on a piece of bark you found; a leaf snipped into the shape of an animal; or a small inuksuk. Nobody, including the spirits I’m sure, thinks your trash, plastic items, or manufactured toys and crap are a particularly great spiritual gift. If someone travelling this path could not have gifted it hundreds of years ago then don’t gift it now. I’m pretty sure the spirits don’t think all our industrial churn-out is particularly uplifting.

The tails are marked, but poorly orientation wise. Many trails leading in multiple directions so be prepared to get turned around once or twice. Pay attention to the maps. I essentially spent two hours just marking out my own route - so get creative!

We saw 3 owls and the parts along the river very pretty!

Beautiful, had the whole place to ourselves.

Awesome hike to do with the family. We took a 6 year old & two 3 year olds on the difficult trail and they loved it. Lakes at the end are all closed off though for reclamation, so not much to do or see once you get to the top.

Vraiment une belle petite randonné avec une petite fille de 7ans !!

Loved this hike! A good challenge since the hike up the ridge is really steep but it's totally worth it once you get to the ridge. It was smoky so will have to go back for the views but it was still absolutely beautiful and with the quick elevation gain it gives that sense of accomplishment. Head to the far end of the ridge and you can do another little climb up to the flag -not sure if the flag is new as this was my first time up there. Climbing to the ridge and back down again was a challenge for us since the dirt was dry and made footing a bit precarious at times with all the loose rocks -for me poles were a must but I saw lots of people getting by without. My friend and I are slow and steady when it come to hiking and it took us 6 hours total, 4 hours of moving time and 2 hours total for breaks. No real breaks on the path up to Rawson, but lots on our way up the ridge and a long one up top since it was so beautiful.

A fun hike. A bit of everything for everyone. I would rate this as easy to low intermediate. The ladder, tunnel and little climb after are cool but very short and extremely easy to handle. We took our time and made it up in 2.5 hours, stayed 2 hours on top then took the alternate route down and still made it back within 2.5 hours

Up to this point, this is the toughest hike I have ever done. I would rate this hike closer to difficult than to moderate. The terrain is very rocky and requires a bit more than average stamina. The ladder climb, cave traverse, and cable climb are not for the faint of heart. Loved it all! The descent is tough but is rewarded with multiple waterfalls. Recommend extra water or filter system. Went thru 6 liters

This is a well travelled trail and it is no wonder why. Some of the most amazing views you could hope for. The trek to Rawson Lake and around it is fairly moderate. From the lake up to the ridge is challenging but doable. So worth it to go to the top for the amazing views and feeling of accomplishment

There was a trail, and a beach, and an island. Whoa!

It was alright. I definitely would say it’s a wee bit harder than moderate! What the reviews lack to include is; the rock wall you have to traverse across.

Don’t get me wrong, the views are totally worth the end goal! Just make sure you’re ready for A steady climb and you’re wearing good shoes!

One of the best views in Alberta!

Really nice trail with diverse landscapes. The shades keeps it cool in the summer
Good trail to run!

Best trail ever! We took the earliest 8:30 water taxi and returned at 5:30 making it a full day of adventures. Do yourself a favor and bring a bathing suit and beers, we had the best time walking/swimming around the lake. Tip: put your beers in the water, it will be nice and chilly:) It took us the same amount of time to go back as to hike up.

I sadly didn't get too far before I sprained my ankle but there was excellent scenery from what I did see. Trail wasn't marked well but planning on going back and trying again when it's cooler.

easy 9km run. couple hills in houston

Beauty hike! Started early which was a plus to avoid the crowd hiking. To the lake was a nice gently hike. To the ridge was steep and hard. But well worth the views!
Unfortunately did the hike when it was super smoky so could barely see upper kananaskis lake.

Definitely recommend doing this hike if you are looking for a good elevation gain in a short time.

We hiked this trail on 8-3-2018 and found it challenging but doable. You feel pushed because you are not sure how much time you will need to meet up with the boat time. We picked a steady pace and made it in 2 hours and 45 minutes which we were told is better than the average. Stayed at the top had lunch and headed back. Still made it and had to wait an hour and half for the 4 pm boat. We took the early boat also which allowed us extra time. We did not have a lot of people on this day total maybe 60 .
Wonderful hike with a unique trail! If you don’t like heights don’t do this hike.
This was a wonderful day spent in Canada!

It was very peaceful easy hike, the water was very calm, we had the beach all to our selves

This is a great hike. The lake is beautiful. If you hike up Mount Ward the view of the Lake is amazing. The trail head however is hard to find.

Fairly active path, met lots of people, is quite the climb but it super worth it. Extremely unique and a little challenging.

Really good to walk where there is no auto traffic.

Grassi Lake is closed with orange snow fencing around it due to falling rock and regrowth - bummer. Quick & easy hike. We took the easy way up and more difficult way down. The difficult route is way more scenic with town overlooks and waterfalls. Saw a black bear towards the bottom. With a few claps and loud talking, he was off in the other direction.

This is a pleasant trail that winds through a valley with many lakes. The 5 main lakes are that famous glacier blue color. Lakes 1, 4, & 5 are great for swimming in the summer (although perhaps a bit chilly). Aside from the lakes, you get lots of trees, valley views, and flowers. Not a ton of wildlife aside from squirrels and a few ptarmigans. Not a ton of elevation change, just a few mellow hills. The outer loop is a bit over 5 miles and there is a shorter inner loop that’s a little under 3 miles. I personally would opt for the longer loop as you get great views of Lake 1.

This is nice because it's a little removed from the hustle and bustle of the other high tourist sites. we crossed the Bow River and kept hiking to the lake. the river was about waste deep, but so worth it! Hector lake is so beautiful! We met a small group of people who camped there over night. they told us stories about swimming in the lake by moon light. I wish I had time and the gear to do it. make time for this hike, so awesome!! I have tons of photos from my trip to Canada on my Instagram @mhysom come check it out and give it a follow. Cheers and happy exploring!

Perfect trail for beginner bird watchers and kids. Also perfect for observing some common native plants and teaching kids about them.

Great hike! You need a vehicle with some clearance if you want to avoid walking all the way to the trailhead. Getting to the lake was fairly easy but you can continue to Mount Ward and Allison Peak if you want a bit more of a challenge. Seeing the window on Window Mountain was amazing. You can make your way to the window if you are confident enough. Me and my friend didn’t attempt because a pretty nasty storm rolled in on us once we summited Ward. I’ll be returning so that I can make it to the window next time.

I would rate this Trail easy , it sure is beautiful view up there took us 4 hours back and forth , with taking lots of breaks ,,,
