Lovely walk under the rain. The big at the beginning and the ocean views and a gorgeous cove in the middle before you turn back! Great walk for all skill levels

Beautiful walk, not at all challenging but worth it for the views and local history.

Short half hour hike. Mostly uphill. Nice views at top.

Did 1/3 of this solo today. Turned around after seeing multiple bear-eaten ants nests, big paw marks in the ground and scat. I only saw one other person and no recent signage about bears, etc. It's a beautiful, rambling fern gully, though.

Easy trail. Wide paths. Also Accessable for dogs. Some Nice views And informative signs on the trail about the animals, plants that live there. On the trail is also a Hidden geochach. So a Nice reward for your kids after a few miles walking

I don't think this is moderate level trail. It is very steep and in some segments it is no clear how to proceed. Was very hard and if you have baby in the backpack - think twice. Going down was a challenge due to rocky trail parts.

Lots of loose rocks and a steady upward incline. Not great for ankle injuries. But it’s worth it when you get to the top!

Nice quick hike. Climb is not onerous at all and the view is worth the brief effort. I did it in the morning but would make a spectacular sunset hike

Quite steep and a little slippery in areas but short. Less than half an hour both ways. spectacular views from the top over hotel lake and Pender harbour

Great trail with a view of the ocean along almost the entire way. Keep following the beaten path to see the light house at the end. You can walk right up to it

Some steep sections on a well marked path. I advise older walkers to take a stick from the side of the entrance - it helps on the descent! View from the top well worth the effort.

Interesting offshoot to see the karst site which is clearly signposted - worth a visit.

I wouldn’t go as far as calling this an easy walk in the trees as someone below did hahah, but it really isn’t a difficult hike fitness wise at all (and I did it with arthritis, and recovering from a post surgery infection!). Going slowly, it took me half an hour up, and half an hour down - those with bad knees like myself might struggle a bit on the way down, as it is steep and there are rocks and roots. The view from the top is gorgeous, and you can wander around a little for a different view, but given the difficulty it gave my knees coming down, I wasn’t so impressed by the views that I would do it again! Pack some water and food and make it a nice little picnic stop :) I got there early and there were no cars in the lot (there’s only room for about four; the rest park on the road) but by the time I got back a couple of hours later, there would have been at least ten cars there!

Machacek Family rating 4.5/5. Easy trail and well marked. Kids ages 12 and 14 loved it. Quiet and amazing trees to admire. 4.5 km or longer if you want. Took us a little over an hour with picture breaks. Great family hike.

Machacek Family Rating was a 3.8. We did not enjoy the service road path that is linked to this hike on all trails, but if you look at our recording you will see another path nearby that will lead you to a creek and 3 small waterfalls. Easy to navigate and excellent family hike. Took us 1 hour.

Machacek Family rating 2. We did not love this hike. I would recommend going early evening to enjoy a sunset and avoid the direct sun along most of the path. There is no lighthouse at the end of the path. We did spot a bald eagle along the way. We had a picnic lunch and the path is easy to follow. Beautiful views of the ocean along the way.

Short but with amazing views.

My first experience with an overnight hike. The huts were the perfect intro for me (along with hiking with experienced friends!). Saw a few bears along the way and some beautiful views. Need to be prepared but thoroughly enjoyed!
