Does anyone know if the cabins are open for use?

HikingGreat!

Drive to the second parking lot to save yourself hiking up the mundane gravel road. Great trail. Not hard. Make sure to hike past the last cabin to get 360 views. Dipped in the lake on the return! It was amazing! So pristine!!

Great view at the top. I would not consider this hike hard. The hike itself took 5.5 hr and we took an extra half hour for lunch at the top. If your vehicle can make it to the 2nd parking lot I would recommend it.

Quite steep hill, well maintained. We went about 1 hour before sunset, very beautiful to overlook the light change in garden bay and hotel lake.

HikingGreat!

Short, moderately steep hike. 25 minutes up, 20 minutes down. Beautiful views at the top with lots of places to sit and eat a snack. Limited parking but we managed to get a spot.

Short, moderately steep hike. A bit overcast during summit but the clouds were high enough not to impact the beautiful views of Hotel Lake, Mount Daniel and all the small coves. Enjoyed munching on some snacks while watching all the boat traffic below. Recommend this hike for anyone travelling through the Pender Harbour area.

HikingBugsGreat!

probably one of my fave hikes of the year so far. Varied terrain, not too technical, good payoff and distance ok! I'll let you decide on the road up. My Mazda 3 made it up to the lower park but I'm sure it wasnt good for it! Great payoff at the end with 360 views. Huts look like fun when they open up again. Well marked, super quiet on a Thursday and well tracked. (Battery died right at the end, was basically 20km). Full hike with a few rests 5 and half hours. Make sure to take the bug spray. Couldn't have my summit beer as they were nasty at the top! The first 6ish km took 1.5hrs. The next 4 took about 1.5hrs. Starts pretty easy and then kicks into gear from the hut.

We did this hike on a sunny Sunday in July. Long logging road up but we made it to the first parking lot in my van. Bathroom at the parking lot. Beautiful hike up to the lake, fairly easy and then pretty flat from the lake to the Edward Lake cabin (was locked). There’s a bathroom and a helicopter pad there. From the cabin up to the mount steel cabin was a tougher climb, not too steep but definitely some mud and logs. There is a bridge out but it’s not a problem at all to cross over on the rocks. Keep your eye on the markers! It’s fairly well marked but you could lose your way after the little waterfall as the markers are less frequent. Mount Steele cabin was unlocked. We had a nice lunch there and really enjoyed the views. Only saw a few people the whole time. Whole hike start to finish with a couple short breaks took us 7 hours. Really enjoyed the whole thing. We didn’t see bears but it’s important to stay alert and prepared. You need good shoes, bug spray and lots of water if it’s hot!

This was a bit tough for a few minutes going up the hill but the hike itself was super short. Up and down in 40 minutes or so!

Loved it. Short and steep - about 20mins to the top. Amazing views. When you get to the peak keep going East a bit more down to the best view of hotel lake and mount Daniel. We talked to some locals the day before who told us instead of going back down the original trail, keep walking south-west towards the island and you will see a trail that goes down the south side of the mountain. Do it! Ocean views the whole way, and no more difficult than coming down the original way. We popped out on Irvine’s landing road and 15min walk along the water back to the car.

One of the most beautiful and fun hikes I have ever done! This isn’t a “hike to the view” kind of hike - there is a stunning view the entire time. The rocks, trees blue ocean and June wild flowers were amazing. The rocks and uneven ground make this a bit of a challenge with anyone who is unstable on foot but other than that i would consider this an easy hike.
