I would rate this trail as moderate difficulty. It took us about 3 hours in and out with about 15 min at the top! Great workout. I would recommend wearing shoes with some traction because the trail is quite loose in parts. The view is spectacular!

Black flies were brutal, still some snow up there but doable in runners - bring an extra pair of socks! Bring more water than you think you’ll need, it was a hot summer day when we did it. Waterfalls were gorgeous, view was amazing.

This was a beast of a hike. It's harder than the Grouse Grind but more scenic and no steps! Only 4 stars because it has limited shade and gets hit with sun hard. It's so worth the views, bring food and 2L water. Below is the video of the gorgeous surroundings from Tunnel Bluffs;

July 7-8, 2018: This was a difficult hike but well worth the gorgeous view at the top. The sunrises and sunsets from here are stunning. The incline is steep for 85% of the hike and requires some scrambling once you begin ascending the summit from the forest. With 40lbs+ backpacks, we hiked up in 4.5 hours and a gruelling 4hours down. There are very limited camping spots at the top, we were the only ones there overnight so we were able to choose the least rocky and flattest spot... maybe 5 tents max. Be very careful when climbing to the highest points, they call it a "no fall zone" for good reason!

Epic 360 view!

Steep trail at the beginning. Gets easier after 3 km. Worth the view!

I just want to ask how was the trail from those who hiked couple of days ago. Planning to go on Sunday and hesitating if our group should go. Any suggestions? Hoping for a reply and will be very appreciated. Thank you!

Good view and great spot to have lunch at the top.

Still lots of snow around the last 1k, did June 23rd.

Worth the gruelling uphill. 75% of it is steep uphill hiking so beware. Last 25% is mostly flat and a great break until you reach the main viewpoint. Took me just under 2 hours to get to the top. Descent took a little over an hour. A beautiful view of Howe Sound, Anvil Island, Bowen Island, etc. Sunset/sunrise here is stunning. On weekends this is a very popular hike; get to the parking lot before 8am or else you'll have to wait for a spot until someone comes down.

Great views at the top overlooking Howe Sound and its islands. The hike up is tough - pretty much consistent hike uphill for 80% of the hike. Wouldn’t consider myself an experienced hiker but I’ve done plenty of trails and this one is tough bc of the incline. Definitely wasn’t moderate for us. Ended up taking about 2+ hrs to the summit and then 1 hr+ down. Bring lots of water, some lunch to enjoy the views at the top and grab one of the many walking sticks that people have left on the trail. We ended up having to park about a mile up the highway bc the closer lots were full.

Really great trail. Powerful coming up from the highway, then a nice relaxing jaunt to the viewpoint after an hour and a half of hard hiking.

Looks like a fire happened recently around 2/3rd the way up, definitely saw debris on the trail (picked it up too) so please make sure to leave no trace.

This was an extremely hard hike. I have no idea how this could be considered moderate. It is steep and full of rocks, boulders, trees, logs.....you name it the hike has. The view at the top is gorgeous but the hike hard

What we saw of the trail was great, solid climb. About 1.5km in we saw smoke and realized there was open flame. Fire fighters are aware and on site, but as of April 16 it's not safe to continue. We realized that at the bottom there are two entrances and one is blocked off with a sign saying the trail was closed with high risk of forest fires.
Long story short- forest fire, trail closed. Don't risk it.

Great trail with amazing views.

Traffic was a bit heavy on the trail and parking can be a bit tricky but overall a good hike.

Not amazing but good hike for the spring when you can't do higher summits, nice view at the top. Crowded and a bit muddy. Trail is in bad shape in a few places due to traffic. All snow is melted (April 22nd). We did it in 3:30 including a good lunch break.

Steep start of the hike, walking poles help! The views at the top are so worth while.

The hike was nice on the way to the top you will see about 5 different views. I did the hike in the snow it was fun but we underestimated it we took too long to finish it. When you go up in the snow get ready for some slippery rocks to step on.

I would call this hike hard for those who are not experienced hikers. However, we wanted to be thrown into a tougher environment. Lots of uphill. Great lookouts. Worth the hike. Pick up some sturdy hiking sticks along the way! It helped a lot!

Did it in September. Very steep and hard with our big backpacks for camping under the top. There are good camping spots up there, but no source of water so do not fotget to carry enough. View breathtaking. Definitely worths our effort.

A great hike but definitely challenging at the top. The climb to the peak is steep on loose material and once at the top be careful, its narrow with and you don't want to fall. The view is worth the trek

Great hike but be aware there is a good amount of snow for the last 1km or so. October 24th.

Amazing, super difficult and long but sooooo worth it.

Went there two days ago and we could have not been more lucky with the weather especially in October. Trail can be quite steep at the top but levels out and the views are spectacular.

pretty sweet hike

Beautiful views up top. Hike up is a bit boring view wise but the top makes up for it. 1 hour 5 mins up, 50 mins down. The first bit is steep but then it flattens out. Parking situation is super annoying. I got there at 1:40 and waited for 20 mins for someone to leave. Trail wasn't too busy though today. My puppy had a blast.

Weather: Clear
Temperature: 21°c
Snow Line: n/a

A very demanding hike, however worth the reward of views across Howe Sound and down into Vancouver.

There were no free spaces available at the trail-head so we parked at the school. We started on the trail which starts out as a gravel road and turns into a gravel path. The path then takes a sharp turn into the forest (keep you head up looking out for a sign when you start to head west).

Once in the forest it was fairly easy to navigate the warn path through the felled trees (following the orange and pink markers and ribbons).

Exiting the forest we came to a large flat area which is a good spot for a quick break. Carrying on up we passed through a boulder garden which requires some scrambling.

Once at the top of the trail (not the top of Lions) you're greeted with some incredible views, we had a quick break and a couple of us attempted to hike up to the peak of Lions.... this is optional and is definitely not for the faint of heart. The first step required us to use a rope to climb down a small rock face (you'd have to be able to hold your own body weight to get down / come back up). Once down we made our way around the south face of Lions being very careful of hand and foot placement, one slip would result in a long fall that would cause serious injury or worse. Whilst making our way around we notice old pitons and climbing sling attached to the rocks, highlighting that this was an intense situation. After passing a tree we saw that the next goal to reach was a shrub with a small ribbon attached to it however between us and the ribbon was a very sketchy scramble which we decided was not worth it (given the drop below us).

After turning back we took our time going down and finally made it back to the car before dark.

Most challenging of the 'Moderate' level hikes I have done to date. No groomed sections. Lots of rocks and roots and some tricky footing. Good workout with a steep first1.5-2k.

Tough stuff but very much worth it. The climb is steep making it a double whammy for getting up there and coming down. 30deg C the day we hiked didn't help.. but there weren't many people on this one and the view is unbeatable!
