This is a great easy enough walk to get great 360 views around Vernon, whilst seeing local wildlife (deer and bluebirds today) and gorgeous wildflowers. The main steps up are closed but you can still access the trails further around on an access road, if you keeping heading south on Mount Ida Road you will see a parking lot where you can park and the map in the park shows you the way to the access road. Once you make the initial slug up the mountain you can choose from 3 loop lengths and it's relatively flat up there. I wouldn't visit in the middle of the day in summer as its very exposed.

Loved this trail. Easy access with beautiful camp spot at the end at Damer lake at the end. Plenty fresh water. So may different ecosystems and some beautiful old growth look forward to hiking it again

A simple local trail with pleasant views of Vernon & Swan Lake to the North and a stunning vista of Kalamalka Lake to the South. 360 degree panoramic views of the entire valley really. At present the main access trail is closed for repairs but those should be remedied by end of May. There is an access road on the backside of the mountain that you can hike up and reach the loop trail. At this time of year the wild flowers are in bloom making for some wonderful colours covering the grasslands. The hike up will get your blood flowing but once on the loop trail the undulations are manageable. Given its proximity to the city, wonderful views (especially of Kalamalka), interpretive educational signage, the plethora of wildflowers and general ease of access, this wonderful trail is a must do for local hiking enthusiasts!

Beautiful trail and not difficult at all. There were beautiful yellow flowers out, looked like the heat will be bringing them to the end of their season soon. Thanks he country side was beautiful and vibrant green! Perfect time of year to do the trail - before it gets crazy hot as you are out in the open a lot. I would recommend having your phone with you for the map details as you go - there are multiple side trails so I am sure it would be easy to hear the wrong way. We saw a deer and also feces that might have been from a bear, but I’m not 100% sure. Beautiful views of the lake and Coldstream! Took us 1.5 hours to do the loop. Ranger on a bike came across as when we were almost back to the car and advised us that it’s actually not open until Thursday yet (covid). Oops! There wasn’t signage that we saw advising that the trail was closed.

Nice moderate hike. Beautiful view of Kal lake and the city.

Great loop - worth the climb up! Ideal for the spring/fall - no shade up there. Excellent views all around.

Somebody left a very nice hat on a fence post along this trail, anybody missing a hat?

It is a little bit of a climb to get to the loop but once you get up there it is fairly easy. Gorgeous scenery and great views of Kal lake and all around the Valley.

Beautiful! Not very strenuous hike. But seemed to be more popular with mountain bikers which made it less enjoyable for me (I like to hike with my dog off leash).

Gorgeous hike. Multiple trails and they’re not clearly marked which resulted in off trailing the majority of the hike. Sidewinder Trail is a newer trail and there were two downed trees which made the trail appear to end out of nowhere. Fortunately there was a gentlemen hiking behind me who pointed me in the right direction. Suggest you plan accordingly for seeing bears, I met a gentlemen on the trail who informed me there was a black bear on the trail about 3 days ago so sightings are definitely more common here. HOT TIP: if you’re considering this area go to Cosens Beach it’s gorgeous you can drive from here or plan to walk a little further and trek down to the water.

Very little shade. Mostly wide gravel path shared with many mountain bikers. Good for them though! Nice views, easy and clean. I think the loop was 10km.

Lots of mosquitoes!! Trail was in poor condition in several areas. Almost bushwhacking in some sections. Mountain bikers cross crossing the trail. We had to step aside to let them pass several times. I would not recommend this trail for hikers.

A great easy trail - mixed terrain and we saw loads of Birds of Prey

Any Trail in The Kalamalka Provincial Park is worth doing! This Trail is Lovely and enjoyable

Amazing views. Easy hike.

Nice trail. High trail had great views of lake and valley. Some steep terrain. Nice beach at Cosens

Great loop, trail is in great shape and easy to navigate. Beautiful view of Cousen’s Bay! Will be back again for sure!

so many things to see. amazing vistas. pay attention to the signs and use the gps data. you could and I did make a few wrong turns but it all turned out well. did about 3k more than I intended. good hike though.

Loved it!!! Had to continuously check the app a few times since we started on the wrong path a few times. Could be better marked! But gorgeous!

LOVED the views from this trail as you come around the mountain - if you have time, hike down to Cosens Bay Cove beach - spectacular! My only comment would be that because there are a variety of trails within the park, THIS trail wasn't very clearly marked ... we had to stop and ask others on the trail to be sure we stayed on course. Other than that - loved it!
