Be careful with the GPS! The link took me to a very dangerous steep and rocky forest service road the bisects the actual trail! Never made the hike as I was almost didnt make it up the road in my non-4x4 4 cyclinder engine :(

This is one of my favorite shorter hikes. The views are pretty standard for most of the climb, but the panoramic views at the top are gorgeous.

Hard hike. Same old scenery all the way up. Recommend for fast hikers only.

I can start my hike up Mt Thom from my doorstep. The trail is an uphill dirt switchback that is heavily trafficked. The path gets quite narrow at some spots making it sort of 'single file' at times. I have seen quite a few runners that use this hike as their daily exercise and in the early afternoon on a nice day it becomes quite populated and you'll often find a lot of other people using the trail. There is a nice view at the top but it's not absolutely stunning. There is no water on the way so bring some for you and your dogs. Some days you'll encounter a lot of off-leash dogs - they are required to be kept ON-leash here, but a lot of people don't listen. This hike on average takes me about 2 hrs to complete starting from Walker Creek trail off Sylvan Rd.
Keep in mind that there are a few different spots to start this trail so you can increase/decrease the difficulty: Prest Rd staircase, Sylvan (via Walker Creek Trail or via Thom Trailhead), Thom Creek Drive (via Thom Creek Trail), and Ryder Lake.

Great workout as its mostly uphill. Helps to bring walking stick for the up and downhill. Amazing view at the top. But lots of flies and mosquitoes. Recommend bug spray or wear long sleeves to cover.

Great workout on this hike! Quiet with only a few hikers!
My dogs loved it and enjoyed the creek water at the end of the hike!

For me Thom is a great local workout hike....a grind if you like without being quite as steep as others around. You are rewarded with a beautiful view and the top and there is always a challenge to get up to the summit faster each time so it continues to offer challenge. I think most skill levels will appreciate the hike you just have to go at your pace. Easy to get to for a quick hike in the area though I don't think I'd drive out from the city just for it. water fountain at Sylvan trailhead spring-fall and porta potty which I think the city does a pretty good job of keeping clean.

Went around 2pm last Tuesday. Couple cars parked but not busy in the trail. Brought my 11yo bro and dog. Bring extra water! Was a really warm day that day and most people stopped and turned after the lookout point. Lots of black flies! Really steep at the top with loose rocks. Enjoyed the hike though! You can go past Elk to Thurston, but it was too hot of a day and we ran out of water so we didn’t.

Amazingly well maintained and marked trail with incredible view to reward your efforts. Switchbacks make the relatively steady incline very manageable.

Great little trail! Got there early to avoid as many people and the heat. Great steady incline and then fairly steep to the top. Didn’t make it to Thurston but definitely will next time.

We are weekend day hikers, and it took us 1 hr. each way with our dog, starting at Sylvan. Steep start turning intermittent and then steep again toward the Summit. Not for the faint of heart, 90% of the elevation gain occurs in 3km. Lots of shade from trees and a lovely view of Cultus at the top. A steep but lovely hike - would do it again.

very sweet hike, steep but that was ok
We went to the camp beyond thurston had lunch and did a return
trail is well marked and maintained

Started at 7:30 this morning and barely saw anyone else going up, a nice surprise for a Sunday. It was a great hike to the view point over Chilliwack. From there we went to the right along the cliff route which was narrow with a lot of loose rocks and dirt. We made it to the paraglider's take off point and we were rewarded with amazing views and very few people. Going back we took a right at the pink trail marker and avoided the cliff side - SO MUCH BETTER! Streams of people were coming up and I couldn't imagine trying to pass anyone on the narrow cliff side.

Only downside to this hike was the litter. Toilet paper in so many places, cigarette butts, and poop along the trail. Pack it in, pack it out people!

Most amazing panoramic views. One of the best hikes in the Chilliwack area!

Good work out. We went on a cool day. Beautiful scenery and very well maintained.

Busy on weekends. Nevertheless the view is always good

So beautiful! The trail is diverse, well marked, and so well maintained!

We went up on a drizzly day. We couldn’t see a thing view wise, but the wildflowers were beautiful. It took us 3.5 hours but we stopped at the top for lunch for a while. I can’t wait to go back on a clear day to see the valley below!

I thought I really enjoyed it! Many different forest feels.

Hiked up in the rain and had mostly cloud cover all day/night. Made camp just back from the summit. Woke up to clear sky’s and great views.

Absolutely love this hike. By far one of my favourite shorter hikes. I completed it in about 3 hours. Amazing views but you do have to work for it! Make sure you bring lots of water as there is nothing for you or your dogs during the summer. Also, you need good shoes as there are steep and possibly slippery sections. Happy hiking!

loved this hike! Quite a workout but totally worth it. the bugs were insane at the top couldnt even enjoy lunch so we walked back down a little ways to eat!

Completed Gloria on July 1st 2018

Excellent hike, completely snowfree all the way up and the wildflowers were in bloom. The trail was well marked and clear of any deadfall. Ensure you bring enough water for this hike with you as there is no water on the trail.

Beautiful trail! Good work out :)

more like a moderate hike. beautiful even in the rsin

Lovely treed, dry forest floor. Well marked trail (once you find the trailhead) that would be good underfoot for trail running. Rolling terrain with some nice views, but mostly in trees along ridge. If you take the Vedder Mountain Trail Road (look for wood post with vertical lettering, 3km from Parameter Road), turn right, drive 0.7km along this "new" road that needs high clearance to get over the ditches. Park at the end on the RIGHT, the trail head is hidden behind the dirt mount to your LEFT.
I was the only hiker the day I was there. Very peaceful hike. Dry trail with soft forest floor, very few roots and rocks. Very well maintained thanks to VMTA.
I hiked 4km out and back (8km total) in about 2:40.. I am not a fast hiker, though. Short on time so I did not get to do the rope section.
