Once in a lifetime bucket list experience. Had perfect weather throughout in Mid July although there was still deep enough mud to make it a challenge. Loved the ladders as they broke up the monotony of walking the whole time, but I could see how it would be scary if you didn’t like heights! Took our group 6 days to complete but is definitely doable in less time if you wanted to grind it out. Lots of fresh cougar prints when we were on the trail July 2018, but didn’t come face to face with any large wildlife. We saw lots of sea lions, whales and bald eagles, keep an eye out for bioluminescent plankton/algae if you can manage to stay awake much past dark. Also watch out where you pitch your tent cause the tide can come in quite far and we heard a few tents got wet. Encountered lots of sand fleas from dusk onwards and the bites were itchy as heck and seemed to last forever. Chez Monique was a highlight and we were able to scoop up some gummy’s, chips and more fireball for the remainder of the journey. Be sure to book your shuttle out in advance (although it can be hard to predict when exactly you’ll finish depending on the last ferry of the day.) On the day we got out we were told the shuttles were all full, and we’d have to get on a waitlist to be out 2-3 days after finishing the trail. We had flights to catch so we sent one of our crew to hitchhike to Victoria and rent a car. Made for a very very long last day in the bush and driving back up to the other cars.
