Beautiful views! We actually hiked across the ridge to the Crypt Lake trail. We joined up with the crypt trail by the old campsite/outhouses just before the tunnel. There was a lot of scrambling but a great adventure if you are up for it. Wouldn’t recommend it for beginners or hikers with little experience with scree.

Great for experienced hikers. Would not recommend to beginners. The meadow is absolutely beautiful and often hosts a variety of wildlife! Bring your bear spray!

Not really a location to hike, but definitely a beautiful sight to see!

We did this hike as a bike’n’hike’n’bike. The first six KMs were relatively flat so we opted to bring our mountain bikes and just send it until the trail got steep. The mountain bike ride was fun but in parts the trail became quite narrow. On the ride we noticed several patches of burned trees from the 2017 forest fires. We so frequently felt inclined to comment on the burnt trees that we ended up keeping tally of the number of times we felt like we needed to comment on it. The tally was 8.

After the bike ride we began to ascend the steeper section of the hike by foot. The trail was not hard to follow but was overgrown and had me wondering why the park did not take better care of it’s stuff (the trail). The bushwhacking lasted about 2KM until the elevation took care of the parks stuff for them and the path cleared up. From this point in the trail became progressively steeper but still not challenging. There was a significant amount of horse dung on the trail that had me questioning their diet. However, we were ok with dung as long as it was not bear dung.

The last 100m or so of elevation was fairly steep but relatively short. We ended up running into a couple who had ridden their horses up toll this steep section. I asked about their horse’s diet but they replied “that’s a personal question” so we went out separate ways.

The view from the top was awesome. You can see the Waterton townsite as well as something I was told was called “Chief Mountain Peek” which were both cool to see. All told the b’n’h’n’b took us about 6 hours round trip with a half hour lunch-break at the top.

5 out of 5 would recommend

Definitely take a bike for the beginning and the end it takes a lot of time off the trail. We were up first week of July and when you hit that peak the temp drops dramatically. Beautiful views and if you pause before the peak you can see Crypt Lake and it’s waterfall. Great hike for more experienced hikers especially with so few options in Waterton right now.

Great trail. On the hard side. If you submit remember you can walk the ridge peek to peek and get the rest of Vimy in one shot.

I went around the loop trail, around the whole mountain, the other side is a lot more difficult but the scenery is absolutely amazing, forests upon rivers upon fields of flowers, would definitely recommend this trail for anyone who enjoys the pure beauty of nature!

Saw a bear within 1.2 km on the bike trail. Constant climbing from Wishbone Trail junction on Vimy Peak Trail. Snow covered trail near basin. Ascent the south Peak with great views Waterton Lakes and prairies.

Sadly you won't likely be able to hike this in 2018. Its a fabulous hike over amazing terrain so stay tuned.

Went in August 2017 before the fire. It was a good place for kids to play, but not much of a hiking experience.

Great hike. Loved the hike. Was very hard, but we took a lot of water and rested often so it all went great. Even got rain when we got at the top.

AMAZING!!! So many things to see. So incredibly tired by the end. I suggest stopping and smelling the roses a lot as there are so many little hidden gem spots to savour on the way down. Also glad we stopped to enjoy it lot as it’s all burned down now :-(

One of my top 3 favourite hikes of all time!! Incredible views the whole time! Keep going past the lake up to Avion Ridge. You’ll find a waterfall that you can enjoy on a hot day. Gorgeous spot to have a private lunch as it’s off the main trail to the left. Absolutely gorgeous. So happy we made this home happen before the fire in Waterton.

Starts with a long flat portion, followed by a steep uphill hike. The uphill portion is tough, but mostly because the hike itself is long. We were definitely tired the next day. Some awesome views and waterfalls on the way up, especially with the trees changing colour in the fall. The lake itself was a bit underwhelming tbh but overall still worth it for the rest of the hike.

Beautiful view of townsite and prairies , amazing hike

A good place to spend a warm sunny afternoon playing around on the rocks and in the water. A fun place for kids to explore.

Loved this hike. Pretty tough, switch backs we're a killer but the views were incredible.

I would say this was moderate-hard. Definitely got the heart rate up once you hit the climb, after a fairly pleasant 3.5 k of pretty easy going. There are a few gorgeous photo ops on the way and the lake is beautiful once you hit the top! I really enjoyed this hike, even tho it was super smoky on hike day.

Worth every step there's a waterfall near the top off the path id recomend taking the sketchy chance and climbing down me and my dogs did it.... Also depending on the time of year pack water for the dogs lots of the creeks were dried up by sept 1

Kids have a blast walking the canyon bottom. We even came back the next day and did it again but with crocs on.

Easy hike for the first 4.5km, after the turn off it's straight up but worth it with views of the valley and the clear water lake.

Hard is accurate. the 1st third isn't too bad but when you get to the cliff face portion the trail is narrow and crosses loose rock and soil. Then steep switchbacks to the top and into the lake. Beautiful lake and nice camping sites.

A gruelling 2.5 uphill! Was tough with our backcountry packs on, but worth it once you get to the top! Great views when you get up past the tree line, and amazing view up Avion Ridge once you get to the lake. Great little campground as well.

Awesome hike up, pretty easy until the scramble to the peak. We walked the ridge to the switchbacks you can see across the bowl, great day!

Paved walk around the canyon. Even more fun to venture down into the canyon. You can even take a stroller all the way around this one.

From the point on the main trail to where the trail to Goat Lake begins is easy. The trail from there is shale and switch backs and a narrow mountain pass that is tricky with full packs on. There are some areas that have tall grass and plants and the views are beautiful. Probably best as a day hike and not with 15kg of gear on your back in 30 degree heat.

Best views on any hike I've done. We did more than just this section though, we started at Red Rock parking area and went to Goat Lake for the night. Then on to Twin Lakes the second night. When we departed the following morning for the last stretch back to Red Rock parking area we had the most spectacular views! Looking down you could see both lakes and then cross over snow capped mountains and through lush meadows. There were rivers and waterfalls, it was stunning. It was 31-35 km total loop and bikes couldn't do the last 1/3 of the loop (we climbed over at least 4 trees! And went up some very steep inclines)

Super easy hike/walk. Uniquely beautiful scenery.
