One of my faves.

We did the trail yesterday on the way from Banff to Jasper. Although it's relatively short it was quite challenging due to the mix of mud and snow along the way. The view at the top of the glacier was well worth it. We stopped several times along the way to catch our breath and take pictures and still did the whole thing in under two hours. If you have the time, you should do this hike during your drive.

Awesome hike great views

Basically Wilcox pass can be hiked from north to south vice versa or part way up and then back down either way. Tangle ridge branches off less than a km up the northern entrance to Wilcox. It heads steadily up north from there. These are two separate hikes so it's kind of misleading, often people try to find tangle ridge but end up doing the whole Wilcox pass instead. Tangle is not marked and route finding is a must for the first bit. However should you find it and push through a quad screaming trudge to the top you'll be blessed with incredible views of mt andromeda and athabasca. The Columbia icefields comes into view as do the tips of north twin and mt Columbia and an incredible view of mt Alberta. Three iconic mountains that cannot be seen from the highway!

This is a simple trail and the views are phenomenal! There’s the glaciers, mountains, river and if you’re lucky...a heard of mountain sheep to walk past! The sheep are really tame so there’s nothing to worry about. They were curious about my pup, but my pup isn’t phased by wildlife so it was fine. This trail is just a fun way to take a break from the more challenging hikes while still having gorgeous views. You just want to get there early though to avoid the crowds!

Easy trail with amazing views

An easy steady grade ascends through piney woods to views of the Columbia glacier. Sit on the iconic red Adirondack chairs and watch the Icefields trucks drive out onto the glacier and deposit little ant tourists. Keep going higher, above treeline, and feel like you're in the Alps with peaks all around and sweeping 360 degree views. Look for chunks of rock with ammonite fossils near the trail. Wear waterproof footwear, the trail can be muddy if there's been recent rain or snowfall (there was a light dusting of snow when we started out).

This trail offered stunning views during the entire hike, from trailhead to summit. The trail was completely snowed under in late October, but there were enough markers and trail railings after treeline to keep you on track. An absolute must, and the drive to the trail was gorgeous.

Can't say enough great things about this trail. Power through the switchbacks for one of the most rewarding short hikes along the Parkway. And each time you rest, the view gets better and better. Be prepared for lots of wind!

Beautiful hike with views of the glacier. The path to the top which is about 200ft further up offers better views of the valley and glacier.

Wow- what a spectacular view at the top. Wish we'd had more time to spend on the ridge.

This trail is amazing. It has incredible views, wildlife, wild flowers (when the season is right) and glaciers! Once you get to the top, it would be in your best interest to explore the ridge. You might find a HUGE glacier. Count on spending extra time and mileage to get the most out of this hike. Definitely one of our favorites!

Hike up on July16th to the red chairs. But, too crowded and was unpredictable weather hit the rainhail storms along the way. Hike up a little bit early.

Wildflowers are out. Minimal snow up to Wilcox Ridge. Amazing views with a gradual effort up to the pass and ridge.

Beautiful hike if you only have a few hours. Hike into the pass then head towards Icefields Parkway for a up close view of the Columbia Icefields. A cairn monument to Walter Wilcox marks the top of the lookout. Still some snow coverage in late June, but certainly worth it.

Amazing to see my girls' first "on top of the world" moment. Beautiful trail up and rewarding views at the lookout. Make sure to take the trail to the apex (rock shelter) for the full extent of the wind off the glacier. Fun little hike that was not too difficult.

Excellent! It looks like an ok hike at the trailhead, but incredibly worth it! I thought to avoid the tourist trap and find something more remote, but I'm so glad we did it!
