June 30/18 - took the summer trail up, winter trail down. There was still avalanche debris on the summer trail when we were there. Otherwise Trail is clear and dry. Busy trail on the weekends! Great view at the lake. Nice place to stop for lunch.

Probably my favourite hike so far! So many different and great views throughout the day. We hiked Smutwood, not Mount Smuts and I did not find the hike challenging or technical. Our trip total was approx 22k in about 7 hours with tons of down time at the lakes and on smutwood.

Did this one as a beginner, it was difficult for my skill level but I did just fine (I was also carrying an backpack for an overnight stay so that made it a bit more difficult) but it’s a very beautiful hike and I would recommend staying the night and waking up to see the sun rise over the mountains! Amazing!

We attempted this hike on May 16th and the gates are locked with a closed notice. Fines are also posted.

Looking forward to an attempt this summer.

The trail is very easy to follow and anyone who hikes often could do it easily. The lake is beautiful but if you continue on the trail to the meadow it has a stunning panoramic view of the mountains. Overall a great hike, not too long (about 4 hours round trip) and a beautiful payoff.

Did this hike a few years ago and can’t wait to do it again!

Great hike, the lake was a little disappointing (seems much more beautiful during winter/spring). We didn't go all the way to the peak though, just till the lake. The trail is through the forest and sometimes difficult to see, but somewhat follows a small stream, so isn't very difficult to find. The detour for the tryst lake path is marked my few small ribbons tied near a large uprooted tree on the right side of the initial flat wide trail. The trail is very very lightly trafficked, so I would recommend going in a group for safety.

Great hike. The trail is a bit different from the trail map. Park service has changed the trail to first intersect with high Rockies trail. On the way up - turn left. Next trail head turn left. Up the trail there’s a bridge to the right. If you want to see the waterfall keep going straight. It’s a bit narrow, but definitely worth it. Going back, cross the stream and go the other way down (there’s a sign for cross country skiing). At the first trailhead turn left and right on the second trailhead- going down. Have fun - the waterfalls are worth the hike.

Gorgeous hike!! Many bridges and scenic spots to take pictures and enjoy the sights. Very rocky on the last stretch between Lillian Lake and Galatea Lake but worth it!!

Solid hike with beautiful views at the top of Mount Assiniboine and Kananaskis. Took us 5 hours with a solid lunch break at the top. Trail was well marked and easy to follow. Didn’t need poles or flip flops at all, but bug spray was super necessary.

Stunning from beginning to end

One of my favourite hikes. Not at all difficult and BEAUTIFUL views!

Excellent views ... follow the hiking trail signs, NOT the fire road ... bring water shoes & bug spray (I’ve never seen bugs like this in AB) ... views are incredible & worth it at the top!

Closed due to bear activity FYI

best hike in the area 6 stars in my book
Total mileage 11.4 mile.
Very important the route changed due to flood in 2013 follow the trail signs

This hike was ok, you will start off on a mountain biking trail for the first half of the hike then turn left onto the hiking trail. Be prepared to scramble ... pretty fun! :)
The view from the top (should be flat) is amazing! You’ll love it. Hike is short, took us about 1.5hrs to get up. Oh.. ps we saw a marmot, fox and an elk.

Beautiful hike! Small incline throughout the whole trail with a few small steep sections. Beautiful waterfalls along the trail - some of the hiking sections were a little narrow beside the creek but should be no problem if you take your time. Easy trail to follow with signs along the way!

It was a beautiful, nice hike starting in the forest with a creek on the other side of the trail, there’s quite a few bridges to cross ( very well done ) .
Up all the way until the third lake with some sections that were steeper than others.
It took us about 2 hours to get to Lillian Lake, we stopped to grab a snack and continue to Galatea lake, Lillian lake was busy with all the campers and hikers that were fishing there were also mosquitoes.
Took us about 40 min steep up to Galatea lake, the views got better and the color of the lake was just beautiful from this point if you have time I would highly recommend to go to the third and last lake “upper Galatea” it is smaller but absolutely gorgeous, it ended being my favourite out of the 3 and just took us about 25 minutes to walk there.
Bring an extra layer for the top and plenty of water.

One of my favourite hikes. Use leather gloves when climbing around boulders. Lots of fossils.

Pretty good hike. Beautiful view at the top.

Great for families! Make sure to have an extra layer to wear at lake. Check out the Elephant Rocks!

Wonderful hike. The first half was a bit of tough uphill slugging but the reward of the open meadows and the lake were worth it. Also worth the five minute hike up to the elephant rocks.

Great hike. Small incline the whole way up. One part was pretty narrow right beside the river you come too but wasn’t hard. Little bit of snow on the ground. Took us 4 hours as we were stopping lots with a pupper as he was excited the whole hike.

Lake is beautiful great spot for a lunch.

Really nice trail! Lots of bridge crossings and varied terrain.

the trail is open and it's a wonderful one. walk through the forest alongside the creek, cross multiple bridges and then head gently uphill. you will cross dried out creekbeds (there may be water). see the damage of the 2013 flood and incredible views of the mountains. Lillian Lake is nice. it's a bit steep up to galatea lake but it's short. the lakes and surrounding mountains are gorgeous.

Beautiful lake at the end, family friendly, if you are going on rainy days make sure you have bug spray and mosquito spray..!! At the end we saw Grizzly bear and Bear cub at other side of the lake.

Lot's of snow!! Same day went to Little Galatea too, super views!

Great hike! don't forget bug spray. Good idea to bring flip flops to get through the flood plains. Today the trail wasn't too muddy but still snow to hike through toward the top. Beautiful views!

Really enjoyed this hike. The walk in is nice and not difficult, and includes the waterfall feature somewhere around midway (if I recall).

The final legs goes right up and out of a high elevation valley to the top of on ridge (near to the top of another).

From here, the views are stunning and worth the trip!

Not hard other than the final bit and the duration! It was quite cool up top with a bit of snow blowing across in the late summer.

Check it out!
