Gorgeous hike! A bit moderate at the beginning then pretty easy. So many shades of green and interesting mountain ranges. Saw a huge marmot and many ground squirrels

Beautiful hike with great views. Easy going through trees, and then becomes steep on the loose scree section to the summit.

NOTE: The posted route and description for this hike say that it is a loop trail however it is actually and out and back unless you want to bushwhack! We hiked the posted route in June 2018 and the GPS route did not follow a trail on the way down the mountain.

Instead, I recommend following the black dotted trail called Arethusa Cirque Route, then once out of the woods head to the summit of Little Arethusa using Little Arethusa Route trail. Descend using the same trail (not following the “loop” route unless your up for the bushwhacking!).

We were camping at Elkwood and this was our first hike in the area. The first bit was a reminder that i'm still a little out of shape. Beautiful hike all in all. A couple nice waterfalls and a huge meadow area that is stunning. Highly recommend this for a family hike. You might want proper hiking boots and maybe even poles if you decide to go up the far scree wall at the very end... up seemed alright but down, we got to watch a lot of people who weren't properly prepared, struggle.

Love this hike. A steady climb up, there is quite a bit of snow on the trail. If you stay on the packed trail you should be ok. We just hiked to the lake which is still frozen but still stunning. It will start to get muddy with the melt.

Good hike, started off at as a moderate incline for the first km or so, then leveled off. A second trail goes up towards a small waterfall and then higher up the mountain, but what you can view from the first flat area is itself breathtaking. Had lunch beside the stream with a small "waterfall" on the rocks, not much shade in the flat meadow area, but beautiful views to enjoy there.

The parking lot had washrooms.

Breathtaking views at the end of the trail. It has 12 stop for total 6km.From stop 1 after crossing the highway 40 to stop 3 the trail has mild to moderate slope. After that really flat trail offering nice view of meadows with wild flower beds surrounding. Its great experience for kids, we hiked with 8 and 12 years old kids. They enjoyed snow balling at one stop where we found remnants of snow dump.Make a stop at the small water fall to feel the water.

Steep in the trees but then levels off to beautiful views

Great way to spend a hot July afternoon, my dog Madison loved swimming in the water across the road from the parking lot after a good walk.

Amazingly beautiful. Gets busy depending on the day and the season. The views from the top of the ridge are unbelievable. The ridge is a challenging hike up. The Rawson hike is moderate and enjoyable.

Rawson Lake Closed due to bears

Beautiful hike!! The hike up to Rawson Lake is a steady incline but manageable! The hike from the lake to the ridge is more difficult as it is very steep - I would strongly recommend poles. It is doable though and so worth the view! We even saw a goat on the ridge with us. I would do this hike again.

Have not been hiking in 8 years. Was a little challenging, but still great!

nice hike, not too hard, beautiful views!

Pretty easy hike up until the ridge. Steep but so worth the views! We went up with my dog and she did really well. Only sketchy coming down as it was raining and really slippery. Was worried about getting my dog down but she did fine and there were many other dogs up the trail as well

Excellent little hike. Feels like cheating since you’re starting off so high at the parking lot. Steep start then levels off into an alpine meadow with a creek and waterfalls. Good view of the Highwood Range to the west.
Going to the moraine and waterfall are good options, but not essential. The meadow and view will suffice most people.
Keep your dogs on leash and be bear aware.

Although the scenery was pretty, it was so busy, it was hard to enjoy. I spent 15 minutes with my dog to take some pictures. If I had a family, it would be a perfect outing as the loop is short and lots of places along the river to have lunch.

Challenging hike if you aren’t used to quick elevation gain. Compared to other hikes I’ve done, the views were mediocre but lots of pretty wild flowers. If you want an easier hike, go clockwise on the trail. For a much more difficult hike, go counterclockwise. Overall had fun and great hike to condition with and my dog easily walked this hike too

Beautiful! All forest until you reach Rawson and then it’s straight up the ridge. Steep and a bit challenging but the payoff at the top is well worth it. Great view of the mountains and upper and lower Kananaskis lakes. Highly recommended

Beautiful views! I enjoyed the changing scenery, various levels of incline and had the joy of seeing several deer throughout the morning. I would it again!

Section from Upper Kananaskis Lake to Rawson Lake is in the trees, but otherwise excellent views the whole way. Portion above Rawson Lake is not an official trail - goes straight up with no switchbacks and so quite bad coming down - wouldn't recommend attempting without hiking poles. 2 hours up and same coming down due to all the gravel and risk of slipping.

Excellent hike, with views most of the way. The lake is anticlimactic; I went back a bit to have my lunch where I could see down the valley. 3 hours up and 2.5 back. Would not recommend for anyone afraid of exposure - coming down the chains is like rappelling without a harness!

Good hike, beautiful forest. The grizzly bear with 3 cubs has just moved out this trail. Actually, it was closed when we arrived but when leaving, a ranger came and opened it. Finally we saw her between Ptarmigan and Elbow pass, so she's not far away...

This may be the best hike I’ve ever done! The hike from Upper Lake to Rawson Lake is moderate but I would rate the hike up to the ridge as hard. Hiking boots and poles would be very helpful. But it is definitely worth the view! Also be sure to bring bug spray as there are a ton of mosquitoes.

Great 360 degree views from the top of the ridge

Completed this hike on Canada Day. Easy hike to the upper lake. From the upper lake to Ridge it’s a grind but worth it for the view!
Would highly recommend poles and ankle boots from the lake to the ridge. Started to rain/snow on the descent which made it very slippery.

Difficult for this beginner so it took us longer than most reported here. Beautiful scenery. I think we took the more difficult route by taking the left fork up the stairs. It was much steeper and longer than staying to the right.
