A decent hike through the woods. Don't expect any great views as the trail is pretty straight forward.

Quaint little escape

Nice trail for snowshoeing. Sun was out and it felt warm. A bench at the half way point would have been nice. We did not see any animals at all!

The Oster Lake trail was a nice walk back through the trees. Good snowshoeing trail, snow was a bit packed to make it easier. On the way to Oster, I started on the larger backcountry camp trail which was wide and boring Once I got off the beaten trail a bit it opened into a wide open blue-sky plain with a couple herds of bison crossing there. Overall a nice Sunday morning.

good snow shoeing today

Fairly unused trail. Buffalo were along the trail path. Pretty cool to see the herd run across the trail.

Completed this walk in winter. Good for all ages. Snow can be packed in areas. Views are lovely!

My son and I did this trail today. I must say very boring! You see the lake a few times and that’s about it. Lots of up and down hill. Honestly not as great as some of the trail. Your in the trees a lot

Typical Elk Island trail, very treed with a few clearings. Good opportunity for spotting Bison. We were the only people out today (possibly days) judging by the lack of tracks in snow

if you're doing it with the potential of snow or wet conditions do yourself a favor and bring crampons and something to sit on (plastic bag or something similar that's waterproof) if you want to stop at those rare clearings to observe wildlife or just rest up. There IS a bathroom at the trailhead with a few benches but nothing on the trail itself so plan accordingly. The whole trail is easy to walk - I'm guessing it has the "moderate" rating because of the distance. Make sure you don't get TOO early a start or late a finish because you DEFINITELY walk through a few spots bison rest stops.

Great hike, but not a loop so be prepared to walk back. There are turn offs as well, but no signs we walked the whole thing. Paved all the way. Boring hike more of a walk.

We tried this route for the first time on Saturday. We usually walk the Tawayik Trail but wanted something shorter. It IS a relatively short route but we enjoyed it. It’s a bit muddy but most of the ground is frozen so it wasn’t too bad. Lots of beaver houses and beaver activity (but no beavers seen). We saw ZERO wildlife aside from one chickadee and a grouse/quail. A very nice and quiet trail that we will definitely explore again.

Didnt complete entire trail. Nice views throughout. Easy terrain.

This was a good trail. The first 1/4 of it is paved. Not stroller friendly as there’s lots of roots.

Nice stroll through Aspen forest, 3km of rolling terrain with the chance of seeing various wildlife. At about halfway mark there is a glacial erratic at the side of the trail. Some sections can be muddy and some prone to flooding due to Beaver activity.

Nice little easy fall hike, saw a Beaver swimming with a few Chickadee’s in the tress. Lots of Beaver Lodges and a few cool Damns to look at along the trail.

Really enjoyed this trail. We saw coyotes, a muskrat and some swans flying overhead. The fall colours are beautiful and there are hardly any bugs this time of year.

Very nice trail in the fall. Colours of the trees are quite nice. There’s a bench the overlooks the small lake, very pretty view.

Partially paved trail that leads to narrow path through forest. Some hills and lake views. Easy for kids. Beautiful trail in the fall.
