The same thing happened to my friend and me last summer. This trail was supposed to be a loop, but loop we did not. There were no signs and the markers were confusing. Because of this, we kept following what we thought were our markers and ended up on a power line trail. We hiked for quite some time under the hot blistering sun, with zero idea of where we were. Finally reached a road and were able to eventually catch a ride back to Fish Lake.

Really nice hike, steep in spots. Had my 9 year old son with me and he carried a 21lb pack with him with no issues. Take the time and camp up near the lake. Will do this again for sure.

Excellent short hike. Good for beginners.

Took my kids (7, 5, and 2). Had a stroller and the big kids on bikes. We didn’t do the 10km loop because I wasn’t sure how they would do for that distance, so we did a bunch of smaller loops and it was beautiful and great for the kids. It was just hard enough for them getting their bikes up all the little hills.

Great trail. Well marked with orange and pink tape. well warn in. Lots of places to camp if you want to break up the hike but can be done in one day. On arrival there are a few group sites and single sites. At the far end of the lake there are more sites and bear food hangers. i would recommend this hike for sure. Well fit hiking boots or shoes and poles are a must. Have fun hiking.

Trail to the falls is closed due to wild fire. :( you cant even cross the suspension bridge. So check trail report first before you head there.

A bit busy to the first set but that's where most families stop. The views are amazing! Well worth some difficult areas on the way to the 2nd and 3rd sets of falls.

I did this hike in 2016, and 2017. I plan to hopefully do the hike again in 2018. It was brutal on my first time, which also happened to be my first time ever doing a back country hiking and camping trip. I had started to wonder if it was a mistake to do this hike and was regretting it. It has since become my favourite place to camp and I try to make the trip at least once a year. The trail can be a little confusing at certain points. It takes me about 7 hours to hike in, and less to hike out. I recommend hiking to sentinel creek to camp out before heading out early the next day to get a good head start on the trail.

Good and easy trail. I saw more people riding bikes than walking, so it’s a good trail for both activities. Mostly flat and good shadows to help with the heat. Some nice views of the lake midway through the trail

it is fun easy and a nice walk for the dogs, great for kids

Great easy hike in to first falls about 4 km. Apparent second falls is very small, and mixed information on third falls. Some on here suggested to go see it. On the trail, another couple said they couldn't find it. The front desk at our resort said it was an overnight hike. We turned back at about 5 or 6 km. The river is beautiful. Best hike of the week for my wife and I.

Did with my mother and family. It was a nice walk, but I think it'd be a much better biking trail while camping at the lake.

Hadn’t been hiking or physically worked out in years. Then about 4 years ago my sister told me she was going on this hike. I figured it was the perfect way to test myself, so I went with her. I don’t know how they come up with their difficulty ratings, but this hike was far from hard. A couple steep shale inclines is the hardest it gets. Got back tired but far from sore. Left my keys up there accidentally when we went swimming, so the next day we did it again to retrieve them. For an out of shape desk jockey like myself (at the time), I was pleasantly surprised at how well my body handled it twice in two days. I was immediately looking for a harder one. Great hike for rookies, people that may be a bit out of shape or for people looking for a casual hike with a bit of altitude. But AllTrails rates this hike as hard. I’m hoping the first hard one I pick from this app is actually hard and doesn’t disappoint.

A must do hike when travelling along the David Thompson. There is one incline of note other than that, the trail is mostly flat. It’s a great hike for people of all ages. It is a busy trail so you’ll likely run into others. The trek to the 2nd and 3rd falls is much quieter and more serene... worth it.

Love Allstones. It’s a tough hike up and down (knees). Just when you think the trail should level out, it keeps climbing. When you start descending to the lake, the water looks so welcoming, and it is.... if you like polar dips. Only the bravest go all the way in and under.

A great trail to start on, fairly flat with slight inclines. A few areas were washed out, and finding the trail again was a bit tricky but manageable. The trail to the first set fall was quite busy and trickled off a bit going further. Would recommend going to the third fall.

The trail is very well marked. There is some nice wildlife there, but the scenery is not very captivating. Although the smell of the forest is captivating.

Great for walking, running or biking... Flat and scenic.

While it isn’t exactly a hike, as it’s mostly flat all the way, it’s a beautiful walk through the forest. I loved the views of the lake, and the KM signs along the way to show your progress. It wasn’t overly busy either, but that could just be because it was kinda downcast and rainy today.

Amazing view of the canyon! It is something that I could look at all day long. It never gets old.

Just beautiful!! The roar of the river and rushing water really humble a guy. Not too long of a hike and just a ways up from falls found a nice lil beach along the river to cool the feet while we had lunch :))

Easy trail with great views- really good trail for families. Very well marked. Can EASILY get to the first waterfall and back in under 2 hours.

This hike is rated as difficult on all the other information sources I’ve found. It is absolutely do-able but there are not many flat areas to rest your legs before the next relentless climb. This hike seems to be all uphill, all the time. It was fun and very very challenging. If you are new to hiking, this isn’t the place to start. The views at the top are amazingly beautiful!

Was a good stroll, pretty flat, might take the bike next time. Found a couple places to get the feet wet in the lake.

Nice lil stroll

Tough long uphill climb that should be approached carefully as you get to some of the skree slopes. the ridge offers some stunning views but mind your footing. The lake is pristine clear. Its doable as a day hike but take the time and camp up there and enjoy seeing how calm it is in the morning. I will return.

It's more than a little steep for about 80% off the hike, nothing special to see at the actual lake because it's surrounded by trees, I guess I just prefer a mountain view after a long hike.

It's a challenging trail for a beginner. Definitely pack light and bring some snacks but nothing heavy cause constant incline will make you regret any extra pounds you got.
This hike was a good wake up call for my lack of shape/lack of exercise state. After working out for a year, my gf and I repeated this trail and it was amazing to feel the difference.
I would definitely avoid this trail during rain/wet conditions as it's slippery even without any moisture.
Parking is great at the base by HWY 11 but parking lot gets full on busy days.

This was my first mountain hike and boy was it challenging! It is def. not for beginners by any means and it proved quite the challenge as it was entirely uphill until it plateaued. Lots of different terrain, beautiful views that made the uphill battle worth it. I wouldn’t say it’s undoable if you’re new, just ensure you know what you’re getting into and come prepared. The lake is beautiful and a nice reward at the top, it would have been nice to camp there for a night or two then head back down. I’m unsure I’d do this if it was raining as the shale was pretty slippery already, but to each their own as I am not that experienced yet. It took us 3.5-4 hours to do the entire thing with half an hour relaxing time at the lake.

My brother and I did this as our first backpacking hike on June 22nd 2018. We were over packed and inexperienced. The views were worth the extreme difficulty LOL. Some of the inclines feel like walking up a 45 degree angle when you get close to the top. Not for the faint of heart. Would not suggest as a first time adventure. We did have this trail all to ourselves though.
